They interviewed Tilman drunk off his ass at Mardi Gras (Galveston) saying "PRAY FOR VICTOR". That's the level of care at the moment.
Well it looks like Silas is in on the tank job and that is protecting his job....how long will that last? He has done the tank job well but the development part has been ASS. DD
This really doesn't mean much since these are not players that were part of the rebuild. He still has to spend NBA minimum by CBA rules (granted this is more than the NBA minimum), but ultimately, it was decided he would tank. John Wall was worth crap unless he sent out valuable picks, which at least he was smart enough not to do in the name of saving a dollar. The ultimate goal was to remain the luxury tax line, which Rafael helped him accomplish. His cheapness was fully visible when he dismantled the team that took the Warriors to brink of elimination.
So you're saying if the Rockets ended up having the worst record this year you'd trade that pick for another player (before the lottery) without question since there's an 86% chance we don't land Wemby anyhow?
There's a 28% chance we land Scoot or Wemby. That's more than a quarter of the balls in a bowl. Are those bad odds at a player who might be a perennial MVP candidate? The front office is clearly sold on this idea so you have to see it from their perspective. The franchise owner is drunkenly telling us to pray for this guy in a public interview. The downside is not so bad. We get a #4 pick who needs 2-3 years of development to become at least an excellent role player. We add that to the core plus several future picks to come. We have two max cap slots and we have to get some veterans and coaches that change the culture and the identity of the team such that it would be attractive to top tier FA's in the near future. Any star player shakes loose, we go after him with our cap space, some young players and picks. We're in an excellent position with tons of cap space, a few promising prospects, many young assets and lots of mid range first round picks coming our way soon. Personally I would have been ok with ending up bottom 4 this season and I would have given the team a vet PG to achieve that, but I guess I can understand why they're so aggressively tanking for the absolute worst record and highest odds. Look at championship teams, having a player who can't be stopped in an NBA finals is obviously the number 1 building block of a championship team. It's by far the most difficult thing to find in the NBA. We can reset this culture when the time comes, I'm not worried about that. It's definitely intriguing to take a shot at Wemby even with all the risks involved.
Normally I’d agree with what you’re saying, but this is an extremely weak draft after the top two picks. Nobody appears to be an Ivey type that you can fall back on.
Amen Thompson is basically better Josh Giddey. Would probably go behind Cade but probably ahead of Paolo in a draft. Outside of the top 2, then the Amen tier, there's Jarace Walker and Brandon Miller. After that it's a total crapshoot. If the Rockets end up 5th, I'd trade whatever to get up to #2 and draft Scoot. If you do need to draft there, take whichever is left of Miller or Walker and try to trade up to 10-11 and hope Anthony Black is there.
