So, whose image were we created in before him? Yeah, there are even references in the Bible that could be interpeted like they were about Aliens...Ezekiel for instance. Moses feeding his people from a mana machine.....etc..etc..etc. DD

Ah, Chariot of the Gods. I was fascinated by that book in my younger days. I do believe they are already here and probably observing and are a big part in our development of our civilization.
Isn't Chariot of the Gods pretty widely panned by scholars? Anyway, I disagree with Hawkins about WHY we should avoid alien contact, but I do agree that we probably should. Given the extreme reactions the introduction of new peoples to each other on our own world has had, I'd avoid finding out what kind of microbes aliens might transmit to us via their blankets.

Any aliens capable of interstellar travel are likely so far more advanced than us that they would view us as lesser life-forms without moral rights. Actually, their notion of morality would likely be far different than ours, if they even have such a notion. We would probably be like ants to them.
Of course it is banned. No one wants to risk looking crazy. How about the concept of the highly tiered world of Acadamia being controlled by alien overlords, guiding the civilization up? :grin: conspiracies are endless with such factors taken into consideration.
I used to have that SETI screensaver that helps decode signals that they pick up with their giant antennas. I think I'm gonna go download it again so I can stick it to Stephen Hawking.
There's a great scene in the Mothman Prophecies where Richard Gere is speaking with a paranormal expert trying to understand why these beings won't just communicate with him since they are advanced and obviously able to communicate. His response? It's awfully arrogant of us to assume that we are the "apex predator" in the universe, or that what we consider "sentient" is what other beings might. Episodes of Babylon 5 dealt with this realty in like the 3rd season. There may be things out there so much older, so much more advanced, that even if they encountered us they would be hardly more aware of our presence then we are of the insects around us.
I think it almost universal if you think about it. Mostly another intelligent species will travel and journey to another place like space travelling are mostly explorer such as scientists. But since we aren't sure what kind of alien species are out there it is a risky thing to do is to expose ourselves and giving too much of ourselves away to another intelligent species that might be hostile in nature. I mean some superior intellect species had a chance to view our history would think us as a hostile species might just want to get rid of us since we might be like ants to them.
my personal belief is in the bible when it talks about the devil being the "prince of the sky" and the world will believe a lie during the rapture... I think this is talking about "aliens" I believe aliens are actually demons, and when the rapture occurs people will believe (or will be told to believe) that the aliens took everybody. Makes sense IMO.
I think if there are aliens they are going to be microscopic bacteria or, at most, primitive subhumans who cannot survive on Earth because of gravity, air, and diseases theat they're immune systems csn't handle
LOL The thing about these "Bible really means aliens" theories is they only make sense if you don't actually read the Bible.
