I loved Larry Bird and despised the Celtics. What an amazing showman for the fans and a ruthless competitor to opponents.

Watching his college games on TV, there was no way (for anyone else but Red Auerbach) to foresee he would become such a dominant NBA force.

Unless you were a Pistons or Lakers fan or a hard core Celtics hater, I don't know why you wouldn't like Larry Bird.

Larry Bird is probably my favorite player ever.

There are youtube vids of him which display great learning points for the fundamentals - pick and roll, etc

Bird was the epitome of brain over brawn. He was never particularly athletic and yet, he is arguably the best forward to ever grace the floor. If I had to pick an all time starting lineup, he would be my SF choice. His touch passes and court awareness was amazing as well.

Agreed... I'd still take him over Lebron simply because I believe Bird could find a way to beat every single possible defense (whether its with his passing or his shooting), and that is without god-given supreme athletic-freakish talent to do so.

Even in today's more athletic NBA, he'd still have a field-day with the no contact rules. At 6'9, with long arms, it was pretty tough to block his shot... and if you played up on him, he'd be able to put the ball on the floor and pretty much do anything he wanted (sorta like Harden can now, except with much better court vision and passing touch).

I remember a more recent Larry Bird interview.

This was right before the Beijing Olympics where the USA had assembled the "Redeem Team" with Kobe, LeBron, Dwight, CP3, Bosh, Wade, Melo, DWill, all at their primes.

A reporter had asked Larry if he thought the current Olympic team would beat the USA Dream Team of 1992.

Bird once scored 47 points in a game against Clyde and the Blazers. He went into the game with the mindset that he was gonna score everything that wasnt a jump shot with his left hand. He scored 20 on Ol Clyde.
    Larry Legend.

I place bird above Klay Thompson even before Thompson injury.

Bird is for sure better than Ray Allen and it's not even close!

Larry is insane and good he lived in an era where they appreciated greatness, rewarded it with an MVP and the competitiveness was unmatched.
