Yes, seriously. Being gay is no more a decision than being black is.

Ok, well when DOMA is resolved similarly I'll stop b****ing. Until then, you can continue to revel in your SC-legitimized bigotry.

Yeah, right back to the original post. Obama is a pedophiile and is into bestiality. Can Basos even in his screwed up failure to process the defeat of his beloved Dubya believe this? Who knows? Threre is a fine line between right wing media and killing abortion doctors. Basso in his sorrow may have crossed it. So sorry for his kids to grow up with this.

and there we have it. our fundamental disagreement. I'm glad it only took 478 posts to get to the bottom.

I think this would be a good exit point to the argument.

If you want to declare victory, great. I'll conceed. We aren't going to agree on this, probably......ever. I do however appreciate your compassion on the subject regadless of how little you appreciate mine. Stay classy Batman, and get well soon.

This is a good point. A lot of people out there assume that it is a choice. You don't choose who you are sexually attracted to. It just happens naturally. Is it genetic or some degree of nurture? I do not know. What I do know is that people do not choose who they are attracted to.

Besides, knowing the stereotypes and bigotry that is out there, why would somebody choose to be gay? The answer is that they do not choose it...it happens naturally just like it does for heterosexuals.

it's no secret that i disagree with landry on this issue, but you're way, way out of line. only someone who's not a parent could make such a statement.

i know you like to get up on your high horse, but given your indifference to the plight of gays (and women) in the muslim world, i don't think you've really got any particular moral advantage here.

walk the walk, and walk a mile in Landry's shoes as a parent, then come back and see if you can't bring a little more compassion to the debate.

Since we are discussing parenting, do you want your children to act the way you do on this BBS? Or are you just "getting it out of your system" here?

    quoted for truth.

i was sad for a second when he sounded like he wasn't going to post in this thread anymore, but then he came back, and the thread went on, and his bigoted views became more and more apparent...and then we all rejoiced!

good work Batman. I'll agree with the majority -a little over the top at times, but as the sole real crusader in this fight, well done sire, well done.

I didn't mean to make light of the situation but am presenting an example based upon my own experience of a conflict of values. I have had gay students but so far have never had a homophobic student, at least one that would publically admit to homophobia. If there was a situation where a homophobic student refused to work out with an openly gay student I would address it in the same manner.

FYI you must not have been a very serious athlete, particularly in Martial Arts though if you don't think the ability to play a sport that you love isn't something that is very important and doesn't cause a lot of stress inpeople's lives. I've seen people get paralyzed doing Judo and still wishing they could play. I've seen families broken up over doing, or not doing, martial arts. The issue of bowing is something that has led to a few lawsuits against the Judo organizations:

As far as putting you on ignore or reporting you you seem to want me to take some action when I have said I would not other than respond to your posts. I disagree with your opinion and respond to them.

I agree Basso has once again failed with a misleading thread title but I will take him at his word that he isn't a homophobe and actually does care about homosexual issues. (although is methods might be wanting.)

Like I said before I won't criticize how he raises his kids but I don't think he is teaching his kids hate of homosexuals.

You are certainly free to be an internet warrior and fight the good fight but let me ask you then if you were in the position of being a teacher how would you handle the situation where there was a conflict of values between your own and the family of student?

You might not agree with my standard of politeness but m standard is the same standard I would apply in real life. While many feel free to say whatever they want on a debate forum it is a different matter when you are faced with an actual situation regarding that rhetoric.

I don't believe this should be a requirement but for me personally I try to live up to the same standards online as I do offline.

Pretty much all you ever say to me is that I'm going too far. It should come as no surprise that I think you pretty much never go far enough. So you telling me I'm over the line couldn't be more meaningless to me. You're welcome to keep telling me that though.

I'll say again that if this was about LL teaching his kids racism, nobody would tell me I was going too far. Everyone would be jumping on board with me. Since it's about a more acceptable form of bigotry, you want me to just accept it as a parent exercising his right to teach his kids his own beliefs. I agree that he has that right, to teach his kids bigotry and quite possibly deep seated shame. I also have the right to call that what it is: abuse.

So disagree with me, fine. You can be the polite one and I'll be the one who refuses to be polite about matters of civil rights and equality for all.
