Just saw on ESPN. http://www.espnflorida.com/dolphins-show-sparano-the-door/ ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that the Miami Dolphins have terminated head coach Tony Sparano. In nearly four seasons as head coach of the Dolphins, Sparano posted a record of 29-32, with one AFC East title in his first year in 2008. Sparano was viewed by many as a “dead man walking” entering this season as Dolphins owner Stephen Ross actively pursued both Jon Gruden and Jim Harbaugh to fill Sparano’s job in the offseason. When both declined Ross’s offer, the Dolphins owner inked Sparano to a two-year extension in January and said he “was the perfect man for the job.” Miami began the season losing their first seven games before winning four of five. Sunday’s 26-10 loss to Philadelphia was the most lopsided defeat for the team in nearly two months when they dropped a 24-6 game at New York. The early candidates for the Miami job are former Titans head coach Jeff Fisher, former Buccaneers head coach Jon Gruden and former Steelers head coach Bill Cowher. Ross will be looking to make a “splash” type of hire to try and energize an apathetic fan base that struggles to purchase tickets. Assistant head coach Todd Bowles will take over the head coaching duties in the interim.
The Fins can talk to anyone starting now. They don't have to worry about embarrassing Sparano like last year.
Where is Parcells now? He is out of touch with football. Failed in Dallas. Failed in Miami. Hopefully he wont get another chance to fail somewhere else. You don't see Jimmy Johnson trying to coach or mold organizations -- you see him on Survivor -- where he belongs.
I have a feeling we are going to lose Wade Phillips. Luckily it looks like Jeff Fisher will fill one of the openings, but I think there will be no fewer than 5 total openings by season's end. Current Openings Chiefs Dolphins Jaguars Possible Openings Bengals Cardinals Chargers Colts Eagles Rams
For all the negative talk about Sparano, the Dolphins have played very well this year. Given their terrible QB situation, no surprise that they struggled and lost so many close games to good teams.
Miami had a horrible 1-11 home record or something like that. Tough to win when your team has a better away record and they practice with crowd noise pumping out of the speakers even for the home games. Sporano made something out of Reggie Bush, even if it was for a few weeks, so he can't be that bad of a coach.
That guy always seamed creepy to me. If you don't have an eye disease don't wear sunglasses at night or in doors.
IIRC they mentioned something about an incident which burnt his eyes at a younger age. That's why he always wears sunglasses
I think they should have taken a page out of Bob McNair's book. Keep Sparano, the team has not quit on him, and bring in the offensive version of Wade Phillips who is sure to be available - Norv Turner. Let him have his wish list in the draft and free agency (namely a QB) and have a nice turn around story next season. Instead the owner wants a sexy name, he has gone the Daniel Snyder route. We'll see.
Well, then I guess he qualifies to wear sunglasses at night or indoors. When he was 17, he got hot grease splashed in his eyes, and went blind for one month. Even though he regained his eyesight, his eyes still turn red, water excessively, and are very sensitive to light. He doesn't even turn on lights in his office when he doesn't have to.
Oh, and sorry for the double post, but Sparano is a good coach. He will definitely catch on with a coaching staff for next season. He got a raw deal in Miami with his front office completely undermining him while he was still under contract. His team still plays hard for him, and the players love him.
I have a strong feeling Jacksonville will give their interim HC a shot. He coached his team to a tune of 41 points against Tampa last Sunday. He has potential.
oops. don't I feel like the a******. Didn't know that sorry to hear that happened, he does seem like a decent coach.
