They got beat pretty bad for one half . First half - Baltimore 31, Denver 3 Second half - Baltimore 3, Denver 20 Unfortunately, that was too big of a deficit to overcome. So, despite playing only 1 bad half of football, this team is overrated?? LMAO...there has to be more to it than that. Also, don't forget that the Ravens beat the Browns last week for their 2nd win. Maybe they are not that bad after all. And the same week, the Broncos got beat, the Dolphins got humiliated by the Chiefs. Hey, that is the NFL, that is one reason why it is hard to bet on teams because every team, for the most part, can beat each other when they play. In other words, there are really no dominant teams like the '85 Bears that went 15-1 or teams like that anymore.
MANNY RAMIREZ Hey, that is the NFL, that is one reason why it is hard to bet on teams because every team, for the most part, can beat each other when they play. In other words, there are really no dominant teams like the '85 Bears that went 15-1 or teams like that anymore. Im offended instead of the Bears 85 season 15-1 you call that dominant? Cmon lets talk about 16-0 now thats dominance Dolphins baby all the way!!!!
RM95, Sorry but the Ravens are not a "really" bad team, a "really" bad team is the Bungles or the Jets or a team that hasn't won 2 games. A "really" bad team is not one that goes on the road and beats a decent team like the Browns. If the Broncos had lost at home to the Bungles, then yea I could see your point, but they didn't, so I disagree. I just find it humorous that out of 10 halves of football, the Broncos have played well in 9 of them, but because they had 1 bad half, they are overrated....whatever. I'll remember that the next time the Raiders have a bad half against the Chiefs or the Patriots have a bad half against the Jets. El Venezolano, Er, considering that most people here weren't even born when the Dolphins went 14-0 (not 16-0, they only played 14 regular season games back then), I went with a more recent team like the '85 Bears. However, the '72 Dolphins were great & I doubt any team will ever have a perfect season again simply because of the parity that exists in the NFL today.
No matter how good Portis and the Broncos Defense appear to be. I am convinced they can never go far in the playoffs with Brian Griese at QB.
Manny, IMO the Broncos have consistently been overrated since Elway retired. They typically are one of the 4 or so "odds on" AFC favorites in Vegas and by fans, yet I don't think they have a playoff game since Elway retired. That is why I call them overrated. Similarly, based on the early season performance and last 2 years--how can anyone say they look better or are more legit contenders than the Raiders--which many in this thread have.
A couple of things, Desert Scar: 1) the Broncos made the playoffs in 2000 but lost to the Ravens (Gus Frerrotte had to play QB because Griese was hurt). 2) The Sporting News picked the Broncos to go 9-7 this season. That is hardly a ringing endorsement for a team to go to the Super Bowl. 3) Elway retired after the '98 season. I guess some were still picking the Broncos to make the playoffs but very few were picking them to win the Super Bowl with the Bubbster (Bubby Brister as their QB). So, I still don't think your points hold. It wouldn't be because you are a Cowboys fan and are jealous of the Broncos organization? And I can't speak for the others in this thread, but I have never said that the Broncos are better than the Raiders. I have said that the Raiders and Broncos are the 2 best teams in the AFC, and that I think the 2 teams will split their series this season. I don't care how good the Raiders have been in the last 2 seasons, they have traditionally had a hard time beating a Mike Shanahan Broncos team. Mike didn't lose to them for like the first 6 or 7 times he played them. The bottom line is that Mike Shanahan is one of the best damn coaches in the NFL. Period. As long as he in charge of the Broncos, they are always going to be good. The only way that wouldn't happen if injuries happen (which has happened quite a bit recently). So, I would just say deal with the fact that the Broncos are good. I have dealt with the Raiders being good; I find it funny that others can not do the same.
Manny, I didn't say you underated the Raiders or overated the Broncos. But others in this thread talked about contenders and didn't mention the Raiders. As far as the sporting news prediction--that is just one prediction this year. Like I said since Elway retired the over/under for the Broncos on w/l's and the subsequent performance has shown they have generally been overrated going into the season and based on early season performances, perhaps this year they will buck the trend. Personally, I think the AFC will come down to the Raiders-Pats, with the Fish-Broncos in the next tier of teams. I am well aware the Fish handled the Pats last week--but I am talking about where I expect the teams at the end of the year, not now. Oh, I didn't mean whether they had a playoff game, I meant a playoff win--sorry for the confusion there.
I don't know about Vegas because I don't bet on games, but I don't see why bookies and oddsmakers think that the Broncos are that good. However, I would hardly think that bookies and oddsmakers at Vegas are the final say all in judging how good a team is. They set lines to get bets. That is all. To read more into it than that is a waste of time, IMO. And the Patriots, despite being the defending Super Bowl champions, are not in the same tier as the Raiders and the Broncos. I know you will disagree, but time will tell who is right and who is wrong.
I cant believe I am agreeing on football with a Bronco but, Denver isnt overrated. I think right now they are top 3 in the AFC. Yes they had a bad game but I think right now they could beat the Patriots and I think they will beat Miami this weekend also. Dont sell the AFC West short thats the best conference in the NFL right now. Chargers and Chiefs look strong too. I look for Oakland to win it but I surely dont expect any gimmes vs. "overrated" Denver.
I do think Denver is probably top 4 in the AFC, certainly top 5, I just don't think they are top 2. But I don't think Miami is top 2 either. Honestly I think home field is huge in the Miami-Denver game (probably more than a TD spread). About the only statements that can be made from this game are if the Fish win or if Denver manhandles them. Otherwise you just chalk it up to two roughly comparable teams where home field is likely to make a big difference. Ya'll think Denver is in the same league with the Raiders, I don't. I put them a notch lower along with the Fish (both unlikely visitors to the AFC championship game), with the Pats somewhere between them. Besides, I care more about how the teams are playing late season then now anyway, we will just have to see, as Manny says.
Great post, Scary. Reminds me why you are one of my favorite low # posters (someone with less than 500 posts). You see, Scar, even though I hate the Raiders and Scary & moe hate the Broncos, all 3 of us can agree that our division is the toughest and the best in the NFL. And I will go one step further (don't know if Scary and moe would say this), but I hope that the Super Bowl winner comes from the AFC West, even if that means it is the, ugh, Oakland Raiders. Scary (and moe) - best of luck this weekend for your Raiders and for the rest of the season including the 2 matchups with my Broncs.
AFC west best division in football???? I dont want to start problems but AFC East is stronger than the West Dolfins- Next superbowl champs New Engl- Last superbowl champs Buffalo- Almost beat Oakland Has Bledsoe deadly NYjets- Welll the best of the worst in the league whats your opinions?
For what it's worth, the worst team in the AFC West took the Pats to OT in Massachusetts and stomped the Dolphins.
LMAO Please stop before I bust a gut laughing at such foolishness. Oh and not only did Buffalo almost beat Oakland (if you consider 18 points almost) but they also almost beat Denver. But almost only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. AFC East better than the West?? LOL
Well, this game has confirmed what I have been saying for awhile: Brian Griese sucks....plain and simple. They will NEVER win a Super Bowl with that jabroni in charge. It is a damn shame, too, because the Denver defense has played their asses off.
i haven't seen a rush defense this outstanding in a long time! ok, Griese's got 2 minutes to come from behind. since the broncos have caused me much pain in my lifetime and ricky williams is a dolphin, i must root for Miami.
is anyone else's heart beating crazy while watching this game??? and i'm not even a real fan of either team!
