In your analogy, the body shop will increase their prices because they know they can without affecting your decision calculus. It costs you nothing but time with your car in the shop, thus there is no impetus for you to choose not to have that extremely minor scratch looked at. If there were a co-pay or deductible, you would wait until there was a noise in the engine, squeaking brakes, or some other problem that you might think merited a visit to the shop before you spent your money.

    Ron Wyden proposed exactly this:

At the time, I thought it was the single biggest positive thing in the ACA, but unfortunately it never made it into the final bill - I'm not sure why.

Vouchers have the perception of being a Republican rally point (based on the school voucher idea). That perception is strong enough to where a bill brought by Democrats will virtually never have a voucher component.

I am curious but has the ACA done away with tax benefits for employers providing insurance?

A smart person could search that thread. If they find ir they can figure out the mystery.

And I would have gotten away with it if it weren't for those meddling kids

I know yours enough to know that this response to you will be a futile attempt to reason with you in any manner

Sorry, can't let you get away with this one. Do you have something to back this up, or is it just your own observation?

I had a major procedure in the county system. I met at least fifteen residents because they use your experience as a teachable moment. So you interact with more than your doctor. This is just five months ago.

Not one of you brave souls has dared venture into answering my question about Benghazi. One "witness" is disavowed; what about the rest of it?

Kind of a shallow "victory" to claim. Now how is that "unreasonable?"

How do vouchers limit coverage? Especially considering now we have less options than we ever did.

Still, it's a personal anecdote, not one based on published facts?

What in the hell are you even talking about? If you do not like the coverage offered by your employer, allowing vouchers would increase your coverage choices. It does the very opposite of what you are claiming.

Yes its a personal anecdote true of the doctors and nurses I encountered. There are not enough students from the us. That is because of increased demand. Its also true because of educational standards.

My mom went to college but nursing wasn't a degreed field when she was young. She is from fifth ward. She went to an integrated nursing school in CO in the late fifties.

To turn it on its head, could it be that there are fewer med students in the US because of the expense and effort required to obtain a med degree versus the reduced payouts by insurers and increased liability issues?

Not med school in the since it has been expensive for years. MRI equipment yes. A lot more scans are required and it costs a lot to keep up with the latest equipment.

I completely disagree with this. My own anecdote: I took a class with first year med students two years ago and out of the class of around 150, less than 10% were foreign students. It was extremely competitive to get into this school as only 9% of applicants were accepted. When you say foreign students, do you mean minorities or students who came to the US specifically for medical school? We should be doing everything we can to encourage minorities to go to medical school.
