I would have lost my mind in that situation, man. I'm a fan of almost any dog owner. If a rescue mutt doesn't want to be outside and I see it, and it looks perfectly healthy, guess what, I'd congratulate the owner and thank them for rescuing the dog that almost surely would have been put down if they didn't adopt it.

Sorry my dog is cold, brah, at least it's ****ing alive and fed every day. ****s.

My son and his wife had their pug tied up outside on a 70 degree summer day in Minnesota. He had access to shade and water and could roam around a bit in their yard. Some neighbor called animal control. Animal control came out, told my daughter-in-law that they did nothing wrong, but advised them that if they were called out again, that they (my son and daughter-in-law) would have to pay a 'fee' even though they were doing nothing wrong and that was unfair to them. They said that right or wrong, they had to investigate every call and the dog owners had to pay a fee. Interestingly enough, the neighbor we assumed made the call had 4 dogs (one over the limit of the city ordinance) that they would periodically let out into their fenced yard (fences aren't as commonplace in the Twin Cities suburbs as they are in Houston). We assume the neighbors thought it was "horrible" that dogs would be chained or tied to a stake.

man eff that b****, you know what's best for your dog.

i've been yelled at before when my dog is rough housing at the park, so whenever she gets a little too feisty with one particular dog i leash her and walk to the other side. i'm always grateful when someone else at the park worriedly tries to call their dog off of mine, so i can assure them that she loves play fighting and getting chased by the other dogs, and some bigger pups just need a more strenuous workout to get tired, y'know? usually they're grateful for me too, cause there are a lot of people who get their panties in a wad if another dog dares to approach their 80 pound mutt in a playful manner.

beta is such a cutie. she seems so independent - my dog would pitch a fit if I left her by herself in 75 degree weather :\

heypartner, there is really only one question here.

What in the name of all that is holy do you have hanging from your dog's neck? Is it like a Prissy Pony valentine?

Look at the coat on that dog. I seriously doubt she was cold at all. People are dumb.

you should have told her the devil made you do it and then asked her if she believes in the afterlife. then she'll never bother you again

LOL. Nice. Glad I'm known to speak out where injustice is happening. Would you like for me to say nothing if you were in trouble? I could step away, if you'd like.

Had that been me, I would have mentioned something to the owner about the cold, yes, but then I would have stopped at the "she doesn't want to come in" demonstration. But I know what you mean.

Did the "lecturer" actually call you an evil owner or is that something you added for effect?

You should have told her dogs taste better when they're chilled.

That's three separate tags. Boulder loves to make you buy tags. One is the State of Texas shaped tag, another is a pink pig, and the green one is just boring, can't really see it as the color scraped away.

The green one allows me to take her off the leash in some places in the World. All I have to do is prove voice command over her, to prevent her from chasing wild life...like lions and tigers and bears. She proved me wrong on that, once. She chased a 125 lb mountain lion up a tree at Chautauqua Park (the busiest park in Boulder), and they had to close off 1/4 of the park for the rest of a Sunday afternoon while trying to coax the kitty cat down.

I got in trouble. And here I thought she deserved a citation from the Mayor. In the paper the next day, I expected the reporters who arrived to give Beta a headline, at least. But nooooo, some poodle in North Boulder was eaten by a lion the same day, so he got the headlines, and Beta's heroics was relegated to the "in other news" paragraph at the end of the When it Bleeds, It Leads article.

I own a pit. She's very beautiful, playful, and obedient. I've taught her three commands that she will always follow. Sit/lay, get in/out, and "Ssssssss." When she hears "Ssssssss" she gets in a pouncing stance, shows those big beautiful teeth, and growls/barks until I tell her to stop.

Had I have been in your situation, I would have demonstrated my dogs "skills" for her enjoyment.

I'll be somewhat of the contrary voice. A lot of people do f**ked up things with pets- abuse, neglect, etc. So, personally, I'm glad that people are much more vigilant reporting f**ked up owners.

However, that doesn't apply to you. At the same time, maybe these people (or this person) didn't know how long the dog was left out there. Sometimes, as annoying as it is, you do have to explain the situation- I would say something like, "Ma'am, believe me, I agree with you in that many dogs are abused. But we've been...... and my dog likes to stay out for a little bit- b/c of their thick coat, takes her a while to get cold- I'm bringing her in soon, don't worry.

I know, annoying to have to justify this, but I'd rather live in a world where more and more animals are not having to suffer than the opposite. It's like anything we have to deal with- smoking in public, etc.- there are negatives that come with the good, but we wouldn't want to reverse course.
