The dogs used for combat situations are like robots that are programmed to wreck ****. It's kind of sad because they don't have a real "off switch" (notice the muzzles) and frequently do what is called "re-directing" which is another word for biting their own handler when they get excited. Amazing animals but nothing you could take home and leave alone with the family. I will say that their pain tolerance is rather unremarkable according to what I've seen and heard from several trainers I know. That's why they are all mixing bulldogs (pit bulls, american bulldogs)with herders (malinois, German shepherd, Dutch shepherd) so that they can get the best of both worlds in their personal dogs.
