He had one big one at the end,'' Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. ``We made him shoot a lot of tough shots. He is a great player and maybe the toughest guy to cover in the league.''

put that in your pipe in smoke it.

Using that criteria, you've got to drop KG too. He ain't ever won nothin. That leaves TD, Shaq, and Kobe.

I put TMac and Lebron because they are on Kobe's level right now. In fact, you can make a strong argument that they are both better than Kobe right now. But I can't make much of an argument for any other players outside of them being as good or better than Kobe.

I put KG on there because he has been dominating for so long and of all the players that haven't won a championship, he is the best of the bunch. I really don't know why he has not won more. Maybe it's because he's had to deal with both Shaq and Kobe together and then Duncan and very good Spurs teams.

TMac and Lebron are more than up and comers. TMac is an established superstar in this league and is now in position with a good franchise to win a whole lot. Lebron's game and his impact on the Cavalier's franchise speaks for itself. I think he will drive the Cavs to several Finals appearances. I expect at least one of those Finals to be against the TMac led Houston Rockets.

T-Mac and that LeBron kid are special, and they are indeed making their teammates better. But I don't like something about KG, he's a great guy, great player, full package. But appearently he failed to make his teammates better. Not until he got Sam and Spree, they passed the first round of playoff. I don't the only big guy on the team shooting jump shots all over the place. What should the others do? Grabbing rebounds or set screens? He got great numbers, but Wolves need a real big man inside before they could really be contenders.

I'm not the one claiming to know something that cant be proved....

It is the prosecution's burden to prove...not the defense's....

    now put up...or shut up.

Losing the conference final to a team with 4 HOFs, who just beat the defending champion, is not a shame. Not at all. And being the regular season MVP means you can lead an elite team. That why everybody agree that KG is a superstar right now. This, however, was not the general take before last season.

TMac is talented, no doubt about that. But if you are unbiased, you have to agree that he's not tough enough especially when the game is on the line. I'm just talking about what he has done right here. And what's the best he's ever achieved? Nothing but 1st round playoff at the best. You can't say you are the best but your team is basically a loser.

Lebron, surely another unblievable athlete. In my view he has even a better body than Kobe and TMac. But I've watched a lot of his game and by now I have to say he's not there yet, not at all. He's athletic, no doubt about that, and also a pretty good unselfish team player. His midrange game has been improving a lot. Yes, all of these are true. But hype up as the best payer of the league? No, hell no. He's still awkward in dribbling in his standard. His jumper is still not consistant. And the most important part, he still has not shown that he can be a winner when he faces the elite teams in this league, while Shark, TD, Kobe and KG have proven themselves in this context.

Are TMac and Lebron are good enough to take the Max contract? Surely yes. Have they been as good as the elite 4? So far, no. They maybe will be but maybe not. You have to repect for the playoff winner not just the stats.

Giving out max contract players to mediocre players is a recipe for continuous failure. This is a reason why garbage teams like the Knicks won't get anywhere. They give big money contracts to guys who can't deliver on the court in max contract fashion. Take a look at the Nets with Kidd's contract. How bout the Hornets with their max contract to Baron Davis? Teams that want to compete for a championship better see what the actual championship teams are doing. Spurs aren't giving out big contracts like they grow on trees. They gave Tim Duncan a max contract because Tim Duncan is a top 5 player. TMac deserves a max contract because he's a top 10 player. If max contracts are given out to players out of the top 10, the team that gave the max contract will not win a championship due to the economics of the game.

Supply and demand, ever heard of that? How many top players are there in the league? 6? 8? How many teams are there in the league? 42? If you can't get a top player? Do you want to keep your best players? How? By giving them Max! Once again, it's market driven, not fans opinion driven. Someone wants to pay, then it's deserving!

I agree some teams are forced to sign 2nd tier players for max contracts. Those teams will not win championships. If the collective bargaining agreement was changed to eliminate the salary cap (cold day in hell), then signing a mediocre player to a max contract would not be an issue.

I have no doubts Les Alexander will sign Yao to a max contract. He will make a lot of money. Rockets won't any championships too because I do not consider Yao a top tier player warranted a max contract.
