It seems like the CIA was lying a lot, and didn't really get a lot of information from what they did. Maybe they watched too much 24?

The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

Interpret that statement as you will.

You should feel bad for yourself. The country that touts the rule of law ignores the law whenever it's convenient.

It's more about a matter of principle and standing up for what this nation was founded on... a line that conservatives love to tout...

    When it's convenient.

Tons of conflicting reports on this. I specifically remember reading that he talked about the courier, realized his mistake, then shut up. The article implies the CIA was listening to the couriers phone calls in 2002, that seems impossible. So probably just poorly written.

I guess it's back to extraordinary renditions. The more sophisticated stiff-upper-lippy way of not getting your hands dirty.

The nation was also founded on the 8th amendment.

rights don't apply to non-citizens. At least our country doesn't protect those. Hell, even if you are a citizen u lose rights when you commit crimes.

What would the 8th amendment have to do with anything?

This country should stand against torture. George W. Bush has shamed the United States of America by his actions in this regard.

It's usually a morally praiseworthy thing to practice what you preach. If the founding fathers believed that cruel and unusual punishment was a bad idea towards it's citizens, it usually entails that it is a bad idea for humanity in general.

This is a perfect application of the "Golden Rule" when discussing the moral aspect of it. Just like some of the posters here already mentioned.... its convenient. What would Jesus do?

To some conservatives, "What would Jesus do" only applies to other like minded conservative Christians.

GB2 was not the only president that has crossed that line. Clinton used the rendition program and Obama hasn't been the most emphatic voice on turning back the banning of all "torture".

It's more like that shade of grey turned unambiguously black during the Bush era, where our principles were once tested off channel under reasonable doubt had now changed to absolute guilt under the pretext of war.

And our critics... It's is a pretty sad state of affairs. The Western world is not in a great state to judge.
