Haha, I knew I'd get blasted for that. I meant that he'd have to become much quicker to beat the defenses thrown his way, not that he'd have to actually stop being Yao and become Amare or Dwight. Don't worry, we all know Yao's value here.

I don't mean tonight. I mean when T-Mac plays. Scola has been/ is very bad at finishing lay-ups that T-Mac gives him. Hayes used to be pretty bad but he worked on it and now's he pretty good but he's STILL an outlet for T-Mac, not someone you can really trust to make something happen in the post with the ball. If he doesn't have a clear layup, his shot percentage drops dramatically. I'm not ragging on Hayes, I love the guy, i'm just saying that's how it works.

Battier, Scola, Hayes, and Alston are not players who make things happen for themselves, and guess what? Those are 3 of our 4 starters. They do not need the ball to get into game flow. Mike James and Bonzi Wells, however, do. And Tracy McGrady often gives them the ball and let them do what they will. He doesn't demand the ball from them.

Exactly right we win, but how far do we go, NOT VERY FAR because he rus out of gas by the playoffs and the supporing cast is not used to be a supporting cast because that is not what they do all year long.

scola missed EVERYTHING before the last 2 games. he airballed a wide open J v. the lakers on the pass tmac gave him. he just had no confidence before. now he does.

bonzi just misses layups all over the place but i think he'll finish better.
hayes is a decent finisher when tmac passes to him but he misses too much for my taste.

but again, scola/james/bonzi/and hopefully francis (that's 4 good finishers off the bench right there for us).

don't worry, this team RIGHT NOW won't go far. but this team is NOT the finished product.

don't compare us to suns/spurs/mavs who have many years in their system, familiar w/ one another...

I noticed this a little bit. It's weird but I think it is probably coincidence. T maybe should take a few less shots a game and not have everything go through him. If we start to get a bunch of weapons, then T mac will become even more dangerous because they won't be able to double him up.

Rockets shot 39% last night. They had one good shooting night, one poor one. It just looks like they were makign more shots last night because the jumpers were falling better. The layups killed the shooting percentage.

Tend to agree with this. Yao's old problems seem to be coming back so far this season. He's bringing the ball down and not using his elbows to create space which has led to getting the ball stripped. He's not sealing his man off in the post and his turnovers are horrible. It's gotten to the point where his presence on the court has hurt the Rockets more than helped during T-mac's absence.

It's not all his fault because the Rockets look like they've gone back to not being able to find him with a pass or solve the fronting problem. They don't hit long range shots so the defense just hugs Yao. Plus, his minutes may have just caught up to him because he's looked tired in the last couple of losses.

Part of it is, because they are role players.
Some role players are role players because they are NOT selfish and put the team first. Some adapt to their roles and keep their selfishness in check, and int time developed a mentality to "support" instead of dominate. So you see a bunch of guys stepping up but also with the role player mindset of sharing and not going over their limits, like a role player usually does.

Still, just cuz they're sharing doesnt mean they're any good. McGrady can help a team of 8th graders win a few games but when he's out, yeah they're sharing and got guys stepping up, but they still suck.

But thats not your point. Yours is that:
Mcgrady's in - role players become stiffs.
McGrady's out - role players are many times more dynamic and talented than they show.
Why can't role player dynamic be there in place of role player stiff, and is McGrady the variable that makes that happen?

I think McGrady always having the ball can be somewhat factored in, but its very much unintentional that he ices the team. Its much more MENTAL if anything that the players THEMSELVES believe they HAVE to have McGrady to succeed. Even though they're getting their numbers now I think these same players would still love to have McGrady back in there (except maybe Francis  )

I think Tmac should be demanding the ball more... atleast when the playoffs come...

he just needs to pick and choose his shots better... and make his teemies better....

    thats what great players do...

reign in your teammates... and lead them

he's been doing that his whole career, but he doesn't have the teammates until this year.

if u pass to chuck hayes a lot, you must try to make your teammates better.

well Tmac could start by saying... hey Chuck... you miss a wide open shot... again... i wont pass to you again this quarter...

Tmac could say to Yao... stop being a big stiff...use your elbow.... and just hurt someone already...

Tmac could say to Rafer... stop shooting the ball you doofus....

    etc etc etc....

Except for Rafer. He should take Rafer's shots away.

No, not really. Everyone stands around when Mac has the ball. We're still trying to play 2 on 5.
