This trade only benefits us if stackhouse doesn't come back....Their starters are obiousily gonna be sweet but the depth is short now which definitely plays in our favor taking a look back at our past matchups....

Jason kidd can play in any system look at what he did for the USA team this past summer he doesn't score but puts out sweet D and control of the team

Since when did Ager and George become half the bench? 2 players who had never played against the Rockets, lol. Diop is really the only key player.

This article and quote pretty much confirm that the Mavs would indeed be overpaying for Kidd and that the deal would make the Mavs too shallow of a team.

"The NBA will investigate the possibility the Mavericks and Stackhouse violated league rules with a prearranged agreement for the forward to return to Dallas after reaching a contract buyout in New Jersey and sitting out the 30-day waiting period, sources said. Several league sources said the NBA will consider forbidding Stackhouse to re-sign with the Mavericks this season as punishment for public comments the forward made on Wednesday that suggested tampering could have occurred.

If it comes to that, the deal is dead. Dallas owner Mark Cuban wouldn't complete the trade for Kidd without a belief that he could bring back Stackhouse this season. Ultimately, sources say, Mavericks management decided that losing Stackhouse would be too hard of a hit to the Mavericks' depth, too steep a price to pay for Kidd."

I guess those of us who were proponents of this trade happening really don't watch the NBA afterall...

the mavericks are about to implode! the fans will turn on Devean George and the league will punish the Mavs and Stackhouse for their arrangements...

the Hornets and Spurs will follow suit and Houston will win the Southwest Division, taking the #3 seed overall behind Phoenix and the Utah Jazz

It's funny, and then we only need to worry which team will be #6? Spurs? Mavs? Or Hornets?

I read about it too .. this is great news :D .. now they are trying to replace him with Van horn and others. Well, I hope this will disrupt their chemistry
and hopefully they will lose a few games on this matter

I hope the trade went through....i can't believe it...Dallas is going to be suck with Kidd who i think it's overrated. I can't believe they give up so much...and i read at the bottom that they also include 2 first round picks and i was like wtf, ridiculous.

HAAAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA... you guys are such stat whores.

Stats tell you nothing about the game, did you know most everyone that has ever played a good amount of minutes with Kidd (especially later in Kidd's career) had their best season.

Kidd is a beast with crazy leadership and lead 2 subpar Nets teams to the NBA finals. I hate the Mavs, but getting Kidd will probably put them over the top.

its a done deal.i think that the nets will be stronger due to this trade. their line up now would be

    harris
    carter
    jefferson
    williams
    diop

this line up should be behind detroit and boston in the east

anyway the mavs now has only 2 year to compete for the title ,kidd is 35 something

So, you are basically saying that Harris is better than Kidd since he was the only real asset coming from Dallas in that trade. Diop isn't that big a factor.

I would consider Diop that big a factor when it comes to matching up with the rockets, considering only Dampier is left to guard Yao. But as we all know, the Mavs are not exactly worrying about the Rox as of right now.

with all that leadership, Nets are still a subpar team with great talent.

nope not necessarily better but he is definitely a better shooter by far and of course he is a young guy whereas kidd is near the end of his career . diop is a big factor for both the nets and the mavs , he was the back up center for dallas and he is not that bad . for the nets, they have n.krstic at center and he isn't performing well this season . they did a great job considering kidd age and the fact that kidd wanted a big extension at 34 nearly 35 .two or three season max .plus harris is 24 only and is shooting 48.3% from the field compare to 36.6 % to kidd.he may not have the better all around game but for kidd it is definitely worth it. diop hassell, harris plus 2 first round pick + cash is great for a 34 years old point guard

The NBA is even more of a stars game than ever before, and the importance of having "names" on your team has never been higher. I think Cuban wanted to add more star power and Kidd is still one of the biggest.

Yes, I think the trade helps Dallas.

As it is now, it still helps us against Dallas, but mainly due to not having to deal with a sharpshooting Harris and Yao troubling Diop. I prefered the trade before since even Devean George is better than Hassel. They gave up a lot less to get Kidd, which ticks me off about the Nets. I would have demanded more. After the trade got borked, I would have liked for it to fall through completely, so that the mishaps of Stack and George come back to bite them and potentially disrupt their locker room.

Talent wise it helps us against Dallas. What I'm worried about is the leadership that Kidd brings with him. The not as imposing Dallas ship will now have a rudder to steer it thru the troubled waters of the playoffs.

Harris always played great against the Spurs, so I doubt it helps them win that series. I doubt an older Jason Kidd with a surgically repaired knee can really better defend Tony Parker who makes a living by being one of the quickest guys in the NBA. Harris on the other hand is extremely quick as well, and is a good defender. I think this is the most overrated trade so far. I think this is going to backfire on the Mavs. It has been said in this thread before... If Jason Kidd is really so good, why does his team suck with Vince Carter and Richard Jefferson who is having the best season of his career?
