Morey was acting on orders. Can't fault him for that. The verdict is nowhere close to in on Morey.

I know, he is just a yes man. That's fine. I have one question, what CAN HE DO ON HIS OWN THEN? Why does Rockets need a GM???

Les doesn't really know basketball. I would assume that Morey will be calling the shots on personnel. (I think the Battier trade was largely his, but I don't really know.)

I don't think this is much of a reflection on Morey.

As he said, this team doesn't have championship personnel, and it's on him to fix that. Let's see if he backs up "It's on me" any better.

Ironically enough, the last time a coach was fired because the owner didn't like him was...Rick Adelman.

I don't like that he apparently tried to buy Van Gundy's complicity in the whole "He didn't even WANT to coach!" story. "Jeff, we'll keep you on the payroll if you just say that you really didn't want to coach next season. You know, as a 'consultant.' Just sign here." Is the appearance of benevolence on the part of the Rockets' office so important that Van Gundy should essentially lie about his desire to coach? The whole thing is ridiculous. Was it Morey's decision? I doubt it. Even though he's the GM, he's just a member of a team that makes these transactions.

As pertains to Morey's ability as a GM, it proves nothing either way, I feel. It wasn't Morey's decision. I'll judge Morey by the improvements he makes to this team. To the Rockets, that is... not the management.

Exactly. Les is just a pure business man who only cares about ticket sales and no luxurious tax. Forget the Champ, Clutch City!

That didn't fly at Nuremburg and it doens't work today, either. See Scott Sullivan and all the guilty execs at Enron, among others. What was Alexander going to do, fire his hand-picked successor before Morey is even a week into his new job as GM? Not a chance.

Perhaps Morey would not have been able to save Van Gundy's job (as head coach), but he should have told Les if you want Van Gundy gone, then I'm going to tell JVG he's gone before I start searching for a successor (let alone talking $$ with Edelweiss, er, Adelman). Morey choose not to handle it in a professional manner and that's a strike against him in my book.

The Rockets have always shat on their legends, what makes you think they wouldnt do this to JVG?
    Look at...
    Dream, traded
    Rudy, fired!
    Calvin,fired!

Im not saying JVG should not have been fired, but the Rockets always have been piss poor at terminating relationships.

I like the way he handled JVG too. We are talking about improving Rox.

Since when was JVG a legend? Last time I checked, legendary coaches could get a team out of the first round

I had to have confidence in him to begin with in order for it to be shaken. It does make me think that he had a classless way of handling a firing.

Not need to check because you are plainly ignorant.

What does that have to do with HOW JVG was fired. I am not commenting on whether firing him was right or wrong, just how it was done.

Save your breath friend, unfortunately the masses are asses in trying to differentiate the "how" from the "why", a sad lesson I learned despite my penchant for explaining things via image, metaphor, and verse.

Clearly, he's a failure. I mean, he hasn't even made one decision and his owner fired the coach. What the HELL was Morey thinking?

    He's a complete idiot.

    Fire Morey!
