Gay is not on the level of Tmac talent wise. You Gay lovers simply overrate him. He is a 2nd tier star player, not a franchise player that you build around and win.

Maybe it's just him being on a crappy team, but something about watching Gay play tells me that he doesn't have a winner's mentality. He knows how to get his, but he doesn't know how to make his teammates better nor will his team to victory.

Also, thread bumping old crap to simply say a one liner like that is begging to be demoted to rookie.

Rudy wouldn't have turned into a Darko...with all the injuries we had in the past 2 years, he'd have gotten more than his fair share of touches and offensive firepower.

I love Battier and everything he brings to our team. I wouldn't trade that for anything.

Once he returns, you will see the full impact he brings for our success.

A question that should also be asked is "Does the signing of Stromile Swift prior to the 2005-06 season still bother/frustrate/infuriate you to this day?" I'll continue to say that the signing of Stromile Swift wound up costing the Rockets a lottery pick in the 2006 Draft when it is all said and done.

So far this season, he has yet to play in a game due to the back injury he suffered in practice on October 17th. I think that this season of his will wind up being his last in the NBA.

No. I'll never hate on a GM for making a move that's smart at the time. Our lack of youth and athleticism was glaringly exposed in the Dallas series so we needed to act accordingly.

Signing Stro/Derek Anderson and drafting Luther all addressed those needs. They were smart, cost-effective moves....at the time.

Without Ron Ron, having Gay might be good. But add Gay who is a typical scorer to a team where you already have Yao, T-Mac, Ron.

It would be like 10 shots a night for Yao and T-Mac.

Stromile, what a waste (MY how far we've come since then. Richie Frahm and Rick Brunson on the court together *shudders* Though Stromile was probably still a little better than Howard).

Rockets with Rudy Gay might not have drafted Donte Green who turned into Artest. Again, Rockets obvious cheapness not getting as much worth out of it is what left the impression. Morey's all about acquiring as much assets as he can even if its a 2nd round pick, but it wasnt like that for the Battier deal. The reaction for me wasnt as much "Shane Battier?" as it was "JUST Shane Battier & thats IT?"

Although Gay is fully talented, not only his score skill, but his motor ability.I still chose the 4th option.I'm happy that the trade had made, as known to all, we are a team of good defence when Jeff Van Gundy coaching us, Battier's coming released Tracy, he can concentrate on score high points, something to my disappointing me is Tracy's score declining every season, this season is under 20 per game. And good point is we got Ron Artest in the off-season,now we are ranking third in the western league with Battier is still out.

In any case, he's better than Battier.

No, it means that I bothered to do a search instead of creating another thread on the same topic.

He's not a better player than Battier...yet. To be honest, I'm not sure getting Gay was a good move for the Grizz. Not only they did suck once Battier left, they'll also have to pay likely max dollars to keep Gay, just because of all the over hype he got.Think about paying 1st tier money for a 2nd tier star. They did that with Gasol and look how far they got :p

Rockets would get where they would get to by defence. Rudy Gay is a TERRRIBLe defender. So i for one am quite happy the trade went through. Shane's a great defender, he's got some range with his shot and he helps move the ball around quite nicely.

I think this trade was the lightening fuse to Dawson's being fired.
But what if Gay had turned to be a crap who was overrated at the 8th? Cultivating a rookie is always more gambling than trading him for a immediatly contributing veteran like battier. Les kept his bids and went back home with all of his dollars none of which had been lost in the gamble, but he still lost the bet because he could have become a billioniar through the gamble.

Dawson and Les believed that a squad of y/tmac and battier was very enough to chase the title, at least to break into the seasond round, but they failed twice.

You have to understand, its not like Mac and Ming failed because Shane Battier sucked, every year the team can reasonably expect to make some noise, but the breaks just weren't there. The trade for Mac depleted the roster, and Tmac played so well that we got into the playoffs and didn't get a lottery pick to build with. Then the team got ravaged by injuries, and we got Battier. Then tmac went down. Then Yao Ming went down. To top it all off our attempts to get quality players via free agency or trades turned out to be busts, even though they looked liked solid moves at the time (Derek Anderson, Stromile Swift, Mike James, Bonzi Wells, 0-fer Alston the list goes on). Had Yao and Mac not gotten injured, and had we gotten Daryl Morey a little bit sooner, I believe we should have gotten a ring by now, or at least reached the 2nd round. Just hard luck sometimes...

Battier fits our system better, therefore it was the right move. The only thing we didn't do is get more from the Grizz.

    Still its rookie material.

Rudy Gay is overrated. End of discussion.

at times i do wish we had gay like last season in the playoffs we needed another scorer when yao went down. But with this current team we have artest, yao, and tmac to score so there would be no use for him, though tmac, gay, and yao would DOMINATE idk i kinda do regret it seeing how shane hasn't gotten us anywhere since we got him we still haven't passed the first round but had we had gay last year in the playoffs i strongly believe that series would have been ours

oh come on...lets just end this debate. if we didnt do the trade, we'd still have Swift with the bad contract and a whole load of possibilities. and lets never ever bring Roy into this trade debate cos he wasnt even a possibility. there's just too many wat if, wat if. Shane made the Rockets better since he joined us, is as simple as that. the record speaks for itself. and we will see how much he means to us when he comes back some time end of this week.

I never have lost one minute of sleep over the Rudy/Shane trade. Sure Rudy has turned into more than most thought he would, but Shane was a better fit defensively and a more rounded vet. We knew what we were getting with Shane, we would have been rolling the dice with Rudy.

The draft I can't get over is letting Rashard Lewis slip thru our fingers. He was lead to believe the Rockets were gonna pick him and we passed him bye three times. He was a homegrown player and broke down into tears when the Rockets let him slip into the second round. Now he proving everyone wrong. Every time I watch him play I get a very sick felling. Why? Why? Why?
