Ah, I see, only partially true than.....about signing him early counting against the MLE.....Best case scenario is getting him to sign for the LLE and then we have the full MLE to offer Maggette etc....

Or we sign and trade with our expiring contracts...

    In Morey we trust.

Great, but that has nothing whatsoever to do with what I said. I was replying to your statement where you said "I believe the Rockets can use the full MLE on a player and still match any offers for Landry going forward. But if they sign him early it counts against the MLE....". That is incorrect and I was clarifying that point.

Now as far as your scenario with Maggette, it's pretty nonsensical. If a team is under the cap and they can match our full MLE offer for Maggette and they still have enough cap space to offer Landry $3M, then wouldn't it make more sense for them to just offer Maggette a little above the MLE? Say $6M? Remember that if a team is far enough under the cap to make those offers, then they don't have a LLE or MLE for this year. Why go to all of the trouble of making an offer to Landry and tying up $3M in cap space just to save $1M or so? The smart move would be to offer $6M and make it impossible for us to match the offer to Maggette.

At the time of my reply you had never mentioned a scenario of an under the cap team making him an offer. Instead you said ""I believe the Rockets can use the full MLE on a player and still match any offers for Landry going forward. But if they sign him early it counts against the MLE", which implies that the Rockets should first use their MLE and THEN sign Landry. Besides not being possible, that the direct opposite of what you are now suggesting, which is that we should sign Landry as quickly as possible.
