From a Rookie... Durant's lucky Yao didnt go down at the beginning of the season
Ron Artest plays mostly at the 3, and Scola can slide over to the 5 when Yao sits down. Deke won't play unless there's injuries to Yao, like he did last year. Chuck has no offense and Dorsey is still unproven, although I think he can work his way into the backup center spot. I hope the Rockets can re-sign Landry soon because he adds depth and has a nice mid-range shot.
Yea Landry was a huge boost of energy coming off the bench last season and he really seem to work well in cutting to the lane to receive the TMAC passes for easy dunks. I have to disagree with you about Scola tho, I really don't think he has neither the size, speed, nor strength to guard bigger guys at center. He was a perfect compliment at the PF for Yao, his ability to score with a variety of ways really made it difficult for teams to double Yao like they did in the year before when Hayes was starting next to Yao. So I see the rockets put a faster more athletic combination on the court when Yao is out. Although Dorsey and Hayes lack offensive scoring they make it up with very physical in your face style of defense, and with Yao on the bench we won't be posting up much and you will probably end up seeing TMAC or Artest running either pick n'roll or isolation plays you really don't have to worry about the other teams switching off Hayes/Dorsey. I really like this line up for the Rockets when Yao is off the court. PG-Rafer SG-TMAC SF-Battier PF-Artest C-Dorsey/Hayes/Landry The defense of this front court will be more then enough to make up for its lack of size, Artest and Dorsey are physical enough to hold their own against bigger players. On the offensive end you pretty much have 4 legitimate outside threat, that will force the opposing team's defense to spread the floor, and will open up for easier for TMAC or anyone else to attack the basket and for the likes of Dorsey, Hayes, or Landry to get easy baskets playing off TMAC's passes. All of which will be easier since the opposing team won't be able to pack the lane like they do when Yao's in the game.
Unfortunately,no one knows the answer to that question. The Rockets are gambling that he will be able to play well for an entire season.
The rockets will resign him. Even if he is only what the gm likes to call an "asset" to the team. Sign him. Run extra plays for him in the preseason, hype him up. Let the gm perform his magic and trade him for a contributer that would be more useful like backup center or pg. If deke is resigned and we comfortable with what we got trade him for our future picks back. All we need is a few great preseason games out of him and we can let him breakdown on somebody else. This is all if he won't let them get a closer look at the knee or results don't come back good. If he gives them the respect of checking out the knee and it come out a-ok then its noreason he shouldn't be wanted as a rotation player. but still not over market value.
Without a doubt we need to ink him. He is a great finisher, can shoot, and is pure energy. When Landry dunks it's usually a thunderous, in your face, I just owned you, nasty, screaming, i got yo baby momma dunk. He gets the crowd pumped and his team mates feed off of that. He can be a momentum changer and he is effective in the time he is in the game. We need this guy coming off the bench, because he still has a lot of potential and could up being our starting PF in a season or two. Overpay a little if you have too, he is the best available.
I still want landry back though,i think he is not worth more than 3m/yr.if morey can afford 3m,man,we can sign piterus or any other guy who is more experienced and valid than landry.
I would want to use whatever money we available to sign him. C'mon Landry. He lost a tooth to the Jazz for us (Game 5 I think?) and got the game saving block on Deron Williams. You've already sacrificed too much for this team to ditch us and go somewhere else.
I am not sure what amount Landry wants in order to resign, but he will be a backup to Scola and Scola is scheduled to make about $3,100,000 this year, his second. I definitely don't think that the back up should be making more than the starter, both in their second years in the NBA. I know that we want and need Landry back, as his old self before the injury, but he has to realize that we can't overpay him and keep this team together long enough to compete for multiple championships. And honestly, even though his numbers and energy were impressive for a rookie, he is not proven enough to me to be even asking for more than $2,000,000 per year. If he thinks he has earned anything close to a MLE, then I say let him go because he over values himself and won't be happy on this contending team anyway. But overall, like many others here, I just think it is his agent trying to make more money, which whether we like it or not, IS HIS JOB.
Landry was a key element to the bench production. We are probably going to have to wait till near the end of the summer to see where he ends up. I am eagerly awaiting some resonable offer from another team so the rockets can see what the market is saying about his value. I hope Buddy Baker is not overpricing his player which can cause a delay for all parties considered.
Wait wait wait, Scola is undersized? I thought 6'9 - 6'10 was about par for the course for PF's. Too bad he doesn't have any post moves or high bball IQ to make him a good player.
rockets would be so dumb to not resign landry. this guy was the most exciting guy to watch after yao went out. i've said it before and i'll say it again..."LANDRY IS A BEAST!"
Landry is good off the bench. He averaged 8 ppg with 4.9 rebounds per game, this is also in his first season. he also insperes the team with his explosiveness. The rockets should keep him.
