    Yeah, it sounds like this guy just wants to keep up a lifestyle that others have for the sake of saying (or showing) that he has that lifestyle.

    On a related note, I've always found that cutting out going out to lunch was one of the better ways to cut back. You don't even really have to cut all the way back to having turkey and cheese on wheat and soup for lunch to really see a difference.

    i have a different viewpoint on this particular situation. if someone is having financial troubles, i think food should be the absolute last consideration for any sort of cutbacks
