Simply no, Morey does NOT overvalue his players. It's just other GMs undervalue players that Rockets have. Rockets have very good players in Brooks, Landry, Lowery, Scola, Budinger and Dorsey. Rockets only got those players with mostly 2nd round picks because other team under valued these players.
I don't think he is overvalueing, its just that maybe he thinks there isn't any good trade offer that is going to make Rockets contenders. I would hate to lose Landry, Lowry, and scola tho. Battier and Ariza is expandable in my opinion
What are you talking about? Morey LOVES Yao Ming. And not in the he-brings-in-Chinese-money way either. The way he speaks of the Rockets with Yao as opposed to without Yao is pretty telling of how much impact he feels Yao has. Anyway, the Rockets have no other star player. Unless you think this is the year 2005.
No. Morey is on the same page as the owner and the coach, they want to win as many games as possible. Moving any of the rotation players at this point for some of the trash they are being offered endangers that. So you have to give him something of value before he will talk seriously. From the sounds of things on Morey's end, that hasn't been the case. As desirable as McGrady's contract is for other teams, not many are stupid enough to give us a key player just to get cap room, to go after another one.
There is also no panic in Morey right now. He holds all the cards. The worst case scenario for the next season is Yao not recovering fully and the team sucking next season (it probably still gets us into the playoffs). Assuming we resign Lowry and Scola with the money we have from McGrady's contract (and we don't extend an injured Yao) we will only have four players under contract at the end of 2011 Scola, Lowry, Ariza, Bat (and Brooks if he accepts an extension/ qualifying offer) . Meaning he will basically get to build the team from scratch in the summer of next year no matter what. He will try to do what he can to set up the team next year to be competative with Yao back, anything more is gravy, but he doesn't have to settle for anything less.
I think he does but not necessarily in a bad way. Some teams seem to undervalue their players and get back crap in certain trades, we know Morey is being selective with the trades he pursues therefore we know he won't get jipped in the process. I see this as a good thing, not a bad thing. He's a guy that thinks about the future of the team and apparently has a vision for what direction we're going in so I don't have a problem with him being standoffish to trading valuable assets, especially now.
