Morey will trade TJones for a mid-first or in a package before his stock begins to seriously plummet.

I'm not sure even the Kings would do that.

I would love to keep Delfino, but I doubt a team would trade a mid first round pick for him. I would say since we are in the rebuilding phase, if we could get a mid first rounder for him we should trade him. That being said I doubt teams getting mid first round picks are looking to grab a vet instead of a young rook

I doubt Morey will keep him. Delfino is playinf PF for us, and we have lots of rookies to make room for at PF.

Morey will do what he thinks is best for the team. He has done an OK job so far.

If you want to be a good team. You need Parsons, you need a Delfino etc. I think Delfino has shown his worth on this team, and he's a good player.

He molds right along with the team, and is pretty good at his role. A great Morey type guy. 3m is pretty solid after looking at him this season he'd probably be worth more now.

I think the question is does Morey re-sign him after 2013-2014 season?

I hope he keeps him. I love his fearlessness and confidence. He never hesitates on his shot, and he is better off the dribble than given credit for.

You keep him. I doubt any team will give us a mid-first rounder for him anyway. Conceivably we'll be looking to make a playoff run again. He adds incredible value to our team with his small salary. He knows the system, he fits in well with the players, and his skill-set is needed. Solid veteren leadership? Pick up his $3 mil option next season.

he is a south american mercenary. If we don't sign him, I could see Okc picking him for suppressive fire from the bench.

I'd been thinking about this for quite a while .... I'd like to see Delfino stay but wonder how to manage him under the cap if they sign a max guy.

Nobody. I kind of can't believe that nearly 20% of the people on here think that this is going to happen.

I expect the Rockets to parlay a big chunk of their 2013 cap space to absorb relatively large contracts (that will expire at the end of the 2013-14 season) in exchange for first round picks. Teams looking to either a) avoid the luxury tax or b) create 2013 cap space will be the teams that Houston will exploit. I expect Houston to use their cap space to exploit other teams, in other words, and to accumulate future draft picks, NOT to waste time/money/energy pursuing any of these overpriced/overhyped and/or unobtainable free agents.

I also expect the Rockets to flip Terrence Jones for a future first round pick (since there is apparently not a spot in the rotation for him) and to flip Greg Smith for a future second round pick.

Houston will likely enter the 2013-14 season with the following core:

    1 James Harden
    2 Jeremy Lin
    3 Omer Asik
    4 Chandler Parsons
    5 Carlos Delfino
    6 Thomas Robinson
    7 Patrick Beverly
    8 Donatas Motiejunas

I'd like to see Houston add an undervalued veteran big man (e.g., Brandan Wright) for cheap (e.g., $2.5-$3.0 mil in 2013-14, $2.5-$3.0 mil team option for 2014-15), and for this guy to replace Greg Smith as the team's backup C. So let's just say they sign Wright; I'll add him to my core:

    9 Brandan Wright

Obviously Houston will decline team options on Francisco Garcia and Tyler Honeycutt. I expect Houston to exercise team options on Carlos Delfino, Patrick Beverly, Greg Smith, and probably James Anderson.

Houston will, I think, look to make the following moves:

10 Terrence Jones: Trade him for a future lottery-protected first round pick
11 Greg Smith: Trade him for a future second round pick to a poorly managed team who thinks Smith might actually be its "center of the future"

Houston should also be expected to NOT pick up the 2014-15 team option on Royce White, which makes White an expiring contract in 2013-14. White will likely be involved in a trade with a salary dumping team. In other words, we'd see White's expiring contract go to the salary dumping team, and for a future first round pick and a fairly large expiring contract to go to Houston. For example:

Andris Biedrins (owed $9 mil in 2013-14, final year of his contract) and a future Warriors first round pick to Houston; Royce White to Golden State

I think we'd also see Houston sign another super low risk-medium reward young guy, which is what we saw Houston do with Greg Smith and Patrick Beverly, obviously.

So, again, you'd have your core guys, who would all be in your 2013-14 rotation:

    1 James Harden
    2 Jeremy Lin
    3 Omer Asik
    4 Chandler Parsons
    5 Carlos Delfino
    6 Thomas Robinson
    7 Donatas Motiejunas
    8 Patrick Beverly
    9 Brandan Wright

You'd have a couple of guys in the developmental league:

10 2013 second round draft pick (the pick acquired from Phoenix)
11 Mystery Dirt Cheap Super Low Risk-Medium Reward Free Agent

And then you'd have end of the bench junk:

    12 James Anderson
13 Whatever garbage overpriced guy you get back in the trade you've made with the salary dumping team (where you shipped out Royce White)
14 Garbage player received in the Terrence Jones trade
15 Garbage player received in the Greg Smith trade

And you'd have the following future draft picks, in addition to your own picks:

Future lottery-protected first round pick (from the salary dumping team)
Future lottery-protected first round pick (for Terrence Jones)
Future second round pick (for Greg Smith)

After the 2013-14 season, you let Delfino, Wright, Anderson, and your end of the bench junk go. You'd plan on all of these dudes being on your 2014-15 roster:

    1 James Harden
    2 Jeremy Lin
    3 Omer Asik
    4 Chandler Parsons
    5 Thomas Robinson
    6 Donatas Motijunas
    7 Patrick Beverly
8 2013 second round pick (the Suns pick)
9 Mystery 2013 super low risk-medium reward free agent pickup
10 2014 first round pick (Rockets' own pick)
11 2014 first round pick (pick obtained in one of the above trades)
    12 2014 second round pick

And you'd use all of your cap space to go after Lebron James. If you don't quite have enough cap space to give Lebron a max contract, you shed contracts, as necessary, until you do have enough to give him his max contract. Although I don't think you'd need to do much shedding. Maybe you'd trade one or both of your 2014 first round picks for future first round picks. Or maybe you'd trade Thomas Robinson for a future first round pick. You get the idea.

Was meant to say late first or 2nd rounder. I'm an idiot.

But it's considered a weak draft and a borderline contender could be looking for a scorer and to shed salary as well. That is fair game to ask for a first e.g. Chicago. Or packaged with T-Jones who doesn't really fit in with the Rockets anymore but is a talented player, that asking price would be a first.
