    1. The reporter of that article is crazy. Most if not all Chinese people (especially the old ones) hate Japan with a passion. Some even avoid using Japanese products at all cost if possible. If the Rockets think a Japanese product can help them market in China, they are sadly mistaken.

    2. No offense but how old are the thread starter and some other whining posters? You know what I am thinking, this thread reminds me of some little kid crying "Mum and Dad love my small brother more than me. They only care about him now. They don't care me anymore!". I am not laughing at this type of kid though. I was that way when I was 6/7 years old too.

    By your logic,

A Japanese motor company designs a car targeting at american market, then they care more about american than Japanese?

An Italian designer produces a fashion line targeting at american market, then they care more about american than Italian?

A chinese company produces some toys targeting at american market, then they care more about american than chinese?

    NO, THEY CARE ABOUT MONEY

and I dont know what's wrong with trying maximise the company's profit. Is a basketball organisation considered as a profit making company in US?

By the way, would you please enlighten me how do you draw the conclusion that "The rockets logo is far eastern in flavor"?

I wonder if Yao Ming a Chinese will feel upset playing in a Japanese named Arena?Or do you think he just wants to play the Game of Basketball and will not be concerned?

probably one of the stupidest post ever.

it's all about business, i'm pretty sure if ford/chevy/chrysler were to offer that amount of money to get the naming rights, none of this would be an issue to you. plus wtf does chinese fans half to do with Toyota, a Japenese car maker.

no, i have nothing against toyota, nor for their marketing strategies. i do know they are breaking into the chinese market, albeit with nothing close to their success in the american market. but what nags me is people that lump countries together and assume that they are the same.

toyota definetly has the chinese market in mind, but considering how much more money americans make and spend, im pretty sure the chinese consideration is not their largest.

but what nags me is people that lump countries together and assume that they are the same. and then they go and say that the chinese are taking something that is ours. im insulted by the orientalism, not the capitalism. i personally, like the new name, better it be a world renown car company that will last than a company that gets bad publicity.

Well it doesn't hurt to tap into that market, I mean, Yao's from there and all and more money means more likely to be able to afford the luxury tax. Though, I think Tim said that all the teams share the revenue from licensed products like hats and Jerseys and t-shirts etc. Still, we get more money, even though the rest of the league does as well.

Look, if the new stuff is sold in China before it is sold here, then we have a problem. It could happen too since you can already buy the new t-shirt and hat at the NBA store in NYC.

This is a little off topic but I figure I make a point.

Jap? arent you being a little hyprocitical here? I dont think most
Japanese Americans would like that term.

How about a little censorship my friend?

I dont think that Prlen was being derogatory here. Notice the period after the word. He was not calling them that, I think it was merely a shortening of the word. Probably did not want to spell it all the way out. If he was calling them the Japanese people that, then he should be called out for doing so.

Isolationist? Hell yeah! I have been a Houston Rocket isolationist for a long time. I don't care about any other team, city, country, or continent when it comes to the Rockets. If someone somewhere else wants to be a fan, fine, but I don't think we should go out of our way to make that happen (other than kicking a$$ on the court).

Sorry, but I do not see much with regards to tradition with The Next Big Thing. The new logo poll on rockets.com kind of irked me when the referred to the old school logo as "Where's the ketchup and mustard?". I used to bleed that "ketchup and mustard", show a little respect.

The championship Rocket teams embodied the spirit of Houston. They brought this city together like nothing else. I just hope that spirit doesn't get forgotten.

This would be like saying some of the fans only care about Yao. Ridiculous.

When did Van Gundy develop into a Vietnamese last name?

He was being sarcastic......I THINK he was....
ANYWAYS. Les doesn't care about any of the fans! What made you think that he actually did?!?
Toyota paid 100 million bucks to get the naming rights.....they bidded for it....
All they want is money. It's sports entertainment. Les isn't going to move this team to China!
    What a joke...
Where is Toyota from anyways? Japan or China?
