he does not have a killer instinct and as a kings fan and a huge kevin martin fan i have always cheered for him and wanted him to some how get that killer instinct but he just doesnt have it. he has the ability to do do it no doubt with the way he can attack the basket but at the end of games he doesnt want the ball and he stops attacking late in games. he does come very passive and will stand around as u saw last night. if u want him to take over the game in iso he cant u have to draw up plays for him or get him open...in the game earlier this year against the knicks he scored 9 points in OT where at least 3 plays were drawn up for him and he came through another was hittin a open 3 on a fastbreak..he is a tremendous 2nd option no doubt but a closer..no. that is y i am happy we have tyreke evans as a rookie he already showing he can close out games and has hit more clutch shots in his 1st year than martin has hit his whole career...
No, he isn't, but he is still a great talent. He is another nice guy and we have many, that is one of the reasons we like this team. However, we need at least ONE assassin who will give the dagger to the other team and close out a game. We still don't have that. I am not even sure Bosh fits that role. Let's face it, Landry was our best fourth quarter closer.
You contradicted yourself in the same post. If he is scoring in the clutch as long as he has plays run for him then he does have the killer instinct. Similar to reggie miller, you think you can ISO reggie miller at the top of the key and expect a good shot to come? No you need to execute plays for him and that comes from having a great veteran team that can execute. Don't forget that he had a great PG in Mark Jackson that got him the ball so he could do his thing. Kevin Martin is great as long as he knows exactly what plays are being drawn up and what he has to do. AND he needs a team to execute well, he needs someone who can run a set under pressure. AB is not that sort of PG, when the pressure gets to him, he goes into dribble dribble, adhoc create mode.
^interesting Still can't see him taking a lead roll by being very passive like he has been. It's either he isn't getting the ball in those clutch moments or he isn't the type to take a big shot. On the other hand I think if he had the killer instinct he would call his own number and a play would be called for him.
Well, Yao is that man. This season our best options are Martin>Brooks>Battier>Scola> and I'm not sure about Budinger. We have to play as a team in order to score late in the game. We don't have a player like Tracy who can bail us out and create a shot half the time.
Very good read, jopatmc. I love it when someone posts some of the confused thoughts swirling around inside my head that couldn't find a way to express themselves. Nice job. Everyone should read it and pay attention.
if thats true, it doesn't bode well for us. yao is not a guy u can just throw the ball to down the stretch and say get me the ball. hes too easy to stop and AB is a bonehead and very unclutch thus far in his career. if martin can't be that guy this team is in trouble going forward IMO
yeah but kmart never demands the ball therefore he does not have the killer instinct and u dont know if he could do it consistently the knicks game he did it but the kings never used him right they gave the ball to him in iso at the end of games and he failed time and time again mainly trying to draw a foul instead of trying to shoot it but lets see what happens with the rockets maybe they will draw some plays for him and hopefully he comes through like i said i am a big fan and am following him wherever he goes...
Funny guys. Kevin Martin wasn't with the Lakers when they went to the western conference finals when they took them to 7 games but it was a very badly called game.
I assume you are referring to 2002 WCF, Game 6 was in LA, game 7 was in Sacramento. Also, Martin never played with that team, he was drafted in 2004, and he played with the Artest Kings teams, not the Webber teams.
He basis his killer instinct by a moment where Kevin Martin was never there is pretty bad but I didn't dismiss it you claimed the post needed to be read and I read that far. That's a pretty bad miss.
My bad. Got the series messed up. I assumed he was on that 2002 team. Anyways, the point is there was no "Closer" on those Adelman teams, only "Closers". The closest thing Adelman had to a closer was Clyde in Portland. But that was simply because Clyde was the best player they had. Our "closer" if you want to call him that, is going to be Yao when he comes back. Almost everything we do offensively is going to be predicated on the defense either collapsing on Yao or manning Yao up.
still too early to tell, need more games to see, haven't kept eyes on Martin when he is in Sac town..
