yeah but he's going into his 10th season in the league. Personally, aside from that one great series he played against the Celtics, I've never seen him as an elite player and think he has like 2-3 more seasons before he begins to decline.
http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=Apt9oR7CJJUUFdhV_C.pCae8vLYF?slug=ys-freeagentbuzz063010 looks like he is accepting the offer. ridiculous offer, to say the least. he sucks in the playoffs and is also old. terrible
It is soooo obvious the Hawks will regret this. Giving this contract to a player who is beginning the downside of his career just amazes me. One very good thing about this is the Knicks won't be signing any "top level" wing players. Even if they get Amare or Boozer, there won't be a backcourt player to compliment them. Maybe they could get Raymond Felton, LOL!
You can make all the arguments you want about how 1st tier players deserve more than the max, etc, etc, but the fact is, with the current salary cap system we have in place, he absolutely does not deserve a max contract.
He deserves more than Reshard Lewis. I don't see how Lewis deserves that max contract. He is the highest paid on Orlando's roster.
That makes it all worth it (from one of Simmons' previous podcasts, Morey agrees too). No ifs and buts. Putting the big 3 together got a championship, and was therefore the right move.
It was done via trades allowing them to keep a decent supporting cast of role players, plus those 3 were complimentary (Pierce is the only one who really needs the ball to be effective).
119 million is way too much for Joe Johnson. Hawks are a dumb franchise. Enjoying your ceiling of only winning 0 games of Round 2 of a playoff series.
No, but the Hawks are a playoff team and are trying to win now. If they let JJ go, they basically have to rebuild.
it's worth it for them because they will earn their money back with playoff games. is it the best idea if they are trying to build a winner? no. but its still an investment that should return a profit.
Lewis doesn't deserve his max contract...just like Joe Johnson (most likely) won't be deserving of his.
The Hawks should've went in another direction and got a power forward (like Bosh or Amare). Joe Johnson is good, but shooting guards are a dime a dozen. Putting Horford, next to Bosh or Amare, with Josh Smith, would be one of the most formidable front lines in the league. Also, both players are in their mid-20s and would barely be 30 by the end of their contract. They could've gotten by, with Crawford at shooting guard or brought in Miller, Foye, or any player who is a offensive threat . Awful move by the Hawks, also I think this lessen JJ trade value in the future as well.
