You're right, that's the bigger thing to come out of this. Yao is impossible not to get along with. But if the Rockets refuse to commit to Ron after this season, how does he respond? It would be stupid on his part not to play hard and try to earn that commitment, but then Ron Artest doesn't have a reputation for being the sharpest tool in the shed.

man that was painful to read...the reporter was making an issue out of nothing....Im sure morey and yao will take care of this bs and make sure that ron ron understands that they are all on the same page....but really can we expect anything else from the reporter from the sacbee? of course he wants to start some drama...its not there problem no more...But what had me  was that no one from the rox organization has got in touch with ron ron...Morey needs to get on that!

    I smell a sitcom. Or a buddy cop movie...Rush Hour 4 anyone?

Yeah, Yao could've been more diplomatic. Likewise Ron could've taken his own advice and not immediately believe the media hype about Yao's statments.

I also think both reporters (Blinebury and the SacBee reporter) are trying to push more copy, so to speak. In this day and age of journalism, drama > straight facts.

To be serious after we get Artest the Rockets need to make the impression Artest is not going to be a one year rental thing. I am not advocating we try to offer an extension before the season starts but we must make Artest feel he is part of the requisite core. It will take alot more than one year for us to win the championship, this coming year is getting deep playoff experience, then the year after that building upon what we learned during the 1st year of artest etc.

If we have that long term plan and impress upon him that he is part of that plan then if he blows up it would be due to his character not the atmosphere of a one year cheap rental that caused him to jet.

guys like artest (impact third scorer) do not grow on trees, they come once every blue moon. we literally waited years moving piecies here and there so we could have an opportunity of getting a third guy of his caliber so let us not provide an atmosphere where his flaky personality can throw us out the window. If we nurture his bipolar brain the possibilities of a tri core can last many years.

Ron Artest better not be expecting a call from Yao. I don't think either one would be able to understand what the other is saying over the telephone anyways.

That's why you keep your mouth shut or choose your words wisely when speaking to the media. There is such thing as being too honest with the bloodthirsty media.

This is a total Berkman situation. Like Berkman, Yao was just being honest... TOO HONEST!

I hope this doesn't throw a wrench in the deal. Never underestimate the power of Ron Artest in this kind of situation.

Oh yea, and F*** FRAN BLINEBURY for choosing to publish those comments. He knew exactly what he was doing. He knew this would open a can of worms. Anybody that knows Blinebury's attitude knows he has no problem taking the anti-Rockets stance on issues.

    F*** YOU BLINEBURY! F*** YOU!

all i keep seeing artest saying in this interview is.......

"i can't wait to get to houston"

"i can't wait to play with tracy"

"i cant wait to play with yao"

"i can't wait to play with shane"

"i can't wait to play for rick"

"i can't wait to be a houston rocket"

"i will play off the bench, whatever, if they want me i'm there"

He has the character trait of Bipolar, one minute he says one thing the nxt minute a total 180, that his why we can never trust what he really says, I doubt he even knows what he is even inclined to.

Like any one who makes millions of dollars more than an impoverished culture truly represent those who have so little...... its all stupid.

THIS WORLD IS DIVIDED FIRST MONEY and everything after that is divisiveness created by the rich to keep the little guys minds off of the truth.

there are articles about the world bank organization as far back as the mid 1800's that talked about the importance of using issues such as race/ politics/ religion and more in order to preoccupy the minds of those who revolt if they knew the truth.

that is why USA didn't attack Saudi after 9/11 and why they are not willing to overthrow other horrible governments with nuclear weapons..... if you can use them to your economic advantage do not mess with them.

The only cultures these guys are representing are RICH cultures.

Great basketball players....but you don't have to agree with their politics or anything else.

Both should shut up as long as there are children dying over things their greed has an impact on they look silly and so do there supposed values.

It was definitely not a smart move for Yao to comment on the brawl publicly as they haven't even talked to each other in person and the trade have still not been materialized. The media always try to make something out of nothing but I guess they will get along fine once they see each other.

The problem is that Artest wants a long-term commitment on the Rockets' part.

And frankly, it's not a good idea to lock him up long-term before the season even starts. Best to make him play through the season hungry, then give him an extension based on the results. You never know what he's gonna do once he gets that fat contract.

I don't know about anybody here, but this line had me cracking up.

I love Ron, I'm glad we finally got him here in Houston.
