This makes sense, but it is going to be tough to just turn a switch and be a contender next year. First off, we have the worst coaching staff in the NBA (minus John Lucas). Second, many people seem to think we’ll be getting the first pick next year…..which is not likely (86% chance we don’t) due to the lottery which was created to avoid tanking. We’ll probably be picking around number 3 again. That’ll help, but we’ve all been witness to the growing pains of kids under 20 in the NBA. Takes a few years to put on the weight and figure out the speed of the game. Will we be good in a few years….most likely yes, but when all is said and done the rebuild will have taken 5-6 years total and that is frustrating to watch for 82 games a year. Having a billionaire owner takeover the team, had me thinking we’d be a major player in free agency and build a contender within a shorter timeframe….was not expecting the worst record for three straight seasons and then at least a couple more before we can legitimately compete.
Billionaires are all about two things: -Money -Ego Of course Tillman cares about the Rockets. He wants sold out games, being on the Networks like TNT, and having bragging rights with his oligarch friends. Nothing made Tillman happier when he was sitting across the table with a TV camera on him talking to Trump about how he had "Two really good players". That's the kind of crap people like Tillman live for. .... However one of the things I think it was Tim McMahon said about Tillman when he first bought the team is that he does tend to lose interest, and would be the type of owner where if the team was meh, he would order a tear down, tank and rebuild really fast, or if a rebuild wasn't going well, he'd shift gears fast because he's wired as a quick fix type of manager. So yes... I think he cares, but what he cares about isn't exactly always going to align with what is best for the team long term, and not always what the fans care about. To be fair to Tillman though, it's a vanity purchase for every one of these billionaire owners. So he's not unique. What does make him unique and unpredictable though is based on his businesses, I don't know if he's very liquid at all, and things can change quick. I wouldn't rule out him flipping the franchise in a couple years.
don't matter, i support the team tanking for a couple of decades and be draft day warriors for the next half century
