I recently got a Z4 and to be honest I realize that some people would think I'm someone pretentious trying to drive a status symbol or something and it does sort of bother me a bit so I avoid telling people what car I drive. I bought the damn thing because it's fun to drive, BMW's are damn good vehicles and got an awesome deal on it. I can relate to the OP in that some people do perceive you differently. It's really strange.

It's funny, because since I got my car, I'm actually making a conscious effort to be a "better" driver (use turn signals all the time, park in my spot straight, letting more ppl cut in front of me, etc), as if I have to try harder to compensate for the terrible reputation BMW drivers have. If I don't, I can just feel other ppl will say, OMG JUST ANOTHER DOUCHEY BMW DRIVER ON THE ROAD MAKING MY LIFE MORE MISERABLE.

And the thing is, I didn't do none of the **** above when I was driving the Camry. I think I'm just paranoid now (for the better)

The BMW/Porsche drivers gets more flak when they're bad drivers, cause the badges stand out.

'07 Z4 here. Weather is getting cool enough for some topless action

I can relate though, when people ask me what kind of car I drive, I just tell them it's a two-seater.
