Did you think knights just strut around in shiny armor and only bed ladies after the ladies are duly impressed with how handsome they look in the armor? The Dark Ages are not a ****ing Disney cartoon for God's sake.
Nope. Men fought against each other over their fiefdoms and sold their daughters off as peace offerings. Or a fief family would pimp their daughter in hopes that the rich knights and nobles would marry her. As someone else stated, it truely is the patriarchal society that is responsible. So what happened when the arranged marriage was made and the daughter had a mind of her own? Maybe she didn't want to marry the man. Maybe her family didn't mind looking the other way as he raped her into submission for their own prosperity. Just saying.
So, the persistence of a word means an equal persistence of the historical conditions in which that word came about? I'm sure you're trolling, but even so your assertion betrays a tragic lack of historical consciousness.
Then go rape someone and spend the rest of your life in jail. Nobody wants your dumb ass on this BBS!
Aren't you the dumb ass that said you hoped Paul Pierces mother would get raped? Yes you are. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=6102281&postcount=4
Chivalry: the sum of the ideal qualifications of a knight, including courtesy, generosity, valor, and dexterity in arms. What you're describing does sound like arranged marriage, but I imagine many times the woman would be willing to marry the winner and anyway, incidences where rape occurred don't fit under the word chivalry. Rape is about as far from courteous as you can get. Unwilling marriages may have been tolerated under the customs of the day though.
