Ding Ding Ding. Stats in the NBA can't be extrapolated in such a way that certain production in a shorter time frame equals a proportional increase in a longer time frame. There are a lot of factors that can play into why a player is more efficient given less time.
Is it me, or does it seem like he might have a little bit since the shooting? While there there are aspects of his game that have clearly improved this season, there have been multiple times where he's laid it up or baby hooked a shot where he once would have punished the rim. Don't get me wrong, there's no doubt this new found finesse is a crucial addition to his game. I just miss the nasty-snarling-reverse-double-clutch-throw-down-in-your-face sometimes... (Snarl Landry!) OP - Good thread. I freaking love watching him and the whole team, for that matter, all-star or not. I think if he can ever learn to put the two aspects of his game (the old and the new, the Snarl and the Mandry) together, all-star isn't too far fetched.
Landry is a PF not a wing, creating his own shot and taking people off the dribble are not preferred qualities in PFs. He could use a more refined post game but he's not a ball handler. Lamar Odom is a good ball handling PF and can create his own shot which allows him to play both the wing and PF positions but how many times has he been an all-star.
It doesn't apply to every player either, I think Landry's stamina has significantly increased since his rookie season (I mean he looks absolutely the most conditioned on the Rockets at the moment in my eyes) so there is no telling where is fall off point in terms of production in relation to minutes played are at this point in time. He would need to be given starter minutes more than every say once in eight games (I'd say 30+ minutes could qualify as a starter's minutes) for us to notice the difference. Who is to say we know or don't know he has all star potential when he really hasn't been given the chance to shine as a starter for a full season?
The better the athlete, the bigger the ball of clay. I've said this many times and the only thing that determines what kind of player he will be is his work ethic. Scola is a good solid player that is maxed out on his ability. Not to mention that you can't get better and work on your game by playing yr round in international ball. Nothing can hide his lack of explosion around the basket, but he uses his determination to make way. Landry with his ball of clay can become a all star. He has gotten better every year with his jumper, his post ablity and explosion. I remember people on this board saying that amare wouldn't be as good after a knee injury. Well, he came back with a better jumper and more complete game. Landry is in the same boat. He works hard on his game, he doesn't need as much space and can create space to get his shot off which puts him at a higher level than luis. That's not a knock on luis, its just the truth. Bottomline is if someone offers luis 6m per, u let him walk. If its between choosing luis vs landry on who to keep, u keep the young buck with the upside. We will see what will happen soon enough, but we know that landry is getting better every yr and is trensing upward.
dirk plays int'l ball too, yet he went from an allstar to an mvp. there are others, too. landry at this point is not in any way, shape or form "at a higher level" than scola, who is averaging a 2double for the first games. athleticism is not the only thing you rate a player.
That's what I'm saying!!!! If David West can make the all-star game, which he has before, so can Mandry. This guy is totally a stud, I love watching him drop the "hammer" on other teams.
Scola has Landry in rebounding even though I expect Landry will get back to where he was before injuries. Defensively, Landry hasn't played much worse than Scola at the 4. Offensively, Landry has been excellent. Right now, I think the Rockets may value rebounding more as Yao isn't clearing the defensive glass. If Landry keeps playing like he is when Yao is back next season, he'll be the starter.
with such short height, landry could play PF against almost every excellent counterparts in west league.which impressed me a lot.His current stat is really shinning.I firmly believe him to be a solid backup PF and great energy provider for the second lineup, great potenial to be a starter next year replaced scola IMO.maybe have chance to win best 6th ,but hard to be an all-star player in the following couple of years.I wish both AB and landry could compete for that glory together in their career time.
The problem is not his stats. His offense is ok, but he has mental lapses on defense. Before he can take over a game like all super stars do, he will not go to the all star game.
Depending on playing time and system. In Houston I doubt it, since we are a defensive minded team and we have Scola. But put him on the Warriors or the Wizards and Landry will easily put up 20+ ppg and maybe 8-9 rpg. In the borderline all-star discussion.
For god's sake, Leeb, you just can't help yourself, can you. As usual, every opportunity that presents itself, no matter how remote, you talk down Scola and call for trading him. You're like a broken record. It is beyond tiresome.
