Does bringing in James signal the end of Luther Head?

Luther is very expendable now. Let's face it, Mikes James is the kind of player we were all hoping Luther could turn into one day (minus the chucking). Now that we actually have James back and the PG position has been somewhat solidified, I'd totally be willing to part with Head if it served our team needs. I like his heart and his shooting touch, but he's not irreplacable. If we picked up someone like Matt Carroll how much of a downgrade would it really be? Does Luther have that much better handles, better defense, better passing? Hardly.

I'm not saying deal him for the first deal on the table. He's got value. But if some team is willing to deal a player with high potential for Luther's shooting we've got to take it. If Indiana offered Ike Diogu for Luther, I'd say yes in a heartbeat.

Head for Paul Millsap, or Head for Diogu. IMO, both the Jazz and the Pacers need more backcourt help than frontcourt help. Especially the Jazz.

man milsap is like a better version of hayes. if we can get him for head, we have hayes/milsap at the PF position. sure we give up some size, but damn.

Well we have too many guards Rafer, Mike, Luther, Lucas (I hope they will trade VSpan for Artest). But you know we have to keep Luther I love this guy. He has a perfect chance to be a great shooter. Remember that's only his 2nd year but he is so good. He just has to improve in his ball heandling and driving ability. I just hope Luther will stay cause we need this guy

I think it's a tossup between him and Snyder regarding who goes...
and somehow I have a feeling it will be snyder rather than Head....

So I voted No :p (It's just a hunch though)

Folks who follow politics don't need to know who's on the cabinet to know what policies an incoming President will push for well before the Inauguration. If you don't know the principles Adelman will use, you're just NOT paying attention.

Luther Head is very one-dimensional and very expendable.

Luther did suck in the playoffs, but then again so did the entire Rockets roster and we're not about to trade everyone away.

I just feel 44% from 3-point land and a lot of clutch 4th quarter shots are things you don't just give away. If the right trade opportunity comes along and Luther's the key to getting it done, then part ways with the guy. Otherwise keep him around and see if he can develop the parts of his game that are lacking right now.

The Rockets need a bigger shooting guard to compensate for a lack of size at PG. The Alston-Head backcourt was a huge problem last year, and a Mike James-Head backcourt wouldn't be that much better.

IIRC, because of his size Head got killed defensively during the Jazz series, which I believe added to his offensive struggles.

There's got to be a team out there that could use his clutch shooting off the bench.

I don't know, we seem to be OK at the small forward position, unless we decide to trade Battier. My feeling is Head will be packaged for a power forward or relegated to the end of the bench until a good deal comes along.

As for the backup SG position, I wonder if Snyder is worth giving another look. Ideally I'd like to see an in-shape and motivated Bonzi Wells there but I doubt he's going to be on the team next year.

I don't think explosiveness is needed much in Adelman's offense.

    Webber. vlade. bibby. Corliss williamson.

Besides, IIRC Luther played under a motion offense at Illinois too, and we all know how well he did there.

And it's obvious from watching him and Yao run hand-offs that Luther thrives in a motion offense with lots of cutting and backdoors where his lack of height can be somewhat offset.

I say management will keep him. Snyder and Vspan might be gone though.

I think he'll be our backup shooting guard now. That's his normal position anyway.

I think Luther is done as a Rocket for a couple of reasons.

    1. Can't play the point effectively
    2. Too small to play the 2, especially getting posted up with little or no effort
    3. Can't finish at the rim consistently
    4. Trade value is high for teams needing a spot up shooter. Philly, Wizards, any east coast team.

    A HUGE YES!!!

Luther Head was exposed for what he truly IS during the playoffs.

Let's hope we can still get something for him.

I don't expect to see any of these guys in Rockets uniforms next year:

    howard (already)
    head
    sura
    snyder
    vspan
    JL3
    Tsalk

    and possibly Alston and Battier

We'll see what trades they come up with to get Adelman the talent he needs.

I'd trade him, Sura, and Lucas for Wilcox. ;)

Think about it. If Seattle loses out on resigning Rashard, they draft Durant, then they should be looking to dump salaries, waste a season for one more high draft pick, and have money next offseason for more moves, or at the very least be armed with expiring deals to go after a player at the deadline for. They need good spot up shooters around Ray and Durant, Head fits here. And they need to save money.

I'd like to see what Luther can do in Adelman's offense.

I went to U of I and I projected Luther as a Bobby Jackson type player in the pro's. In college, Luther would penetrate pretty regularly. I just don't think that he was asked to do that under JVG.
