Assuming TMax and Barry are totally injury free all season, then sure, Head gets cut. Should either of them get injured, we don't really have a 2 on the roster. I'd be surprised to see Head moved/ cut UNLESS it's part of a 2-1 deal, and even then I'd expect us to try and pick up a 3rd string SG. Novak is a guy who can shoot the lights out at the 4 spot. Barry in no way makes him redundant - it's ALWAYS good to have a 40+% 3pt shooter available to create space for your stars. Having 2 available is better than 1. There's definitely going to be another move made by Morey at some stage - but I keep thinking it'll be nearer the deadline - which means expiring contracts will be kept around. No clue how he squeezes the roster down to 15, but without doubt Woods is gone. My guess: Alston/Brooks/Jackson/Francis McGrady/Barry/Head Ming Scola/Landry/Hayes/Dorsey/Novak Battier/ Greene So Harris would also miss out. We can always sign Mutombo later in the season if needs be - and same story for Mike Harris (provided nobody else jumps on them).
Novak will definitely be traded. He won't make the squad for next season. I think we wouldn't mind keeping Luther Head...he is playing for a contract next season after all so we may see improvement...not as if its that hard to improve from his last season
I c what your saying, but it would be classless to cut Deke after begging him to stay and what he did for us last year, unless he wants out again. We are loaded at the PF spot, Chuck and Head have got to go.
But is Harris > Scola, Landry, Hayes & Dorsey if we sign Deke? SF3 is irrelevant in that conversation; then we have 6 roster spots at the 4/5 and I don't see that happening. Even though I don't like the odds of SF3 being viable as a roster candidate, I can't see Morey giving away an expiring contract.
I sense a trade with Orlando. I see us sending more players over there than in return, and it'll involve Steve Novak. Reasons: They only have Hedo Turkoglu at the SF spot...nothing behind him..so they wouldn't mind Steve. And they are already at luxury tax threshold level with around only 10 players under contract.(or 11 now Pietrus has signed?). Anyways so they want to fill up their roster cheaply, and since we've got more than 15 contracts we'd be sending a few over there. Expect JJ Redick in the trade as well...
I think the Barry signing has nothing to do with keeping Head. The writing has been on the wall for him since the playoffs. As for Novak, it sounds like he may be traded, but I still don't mind him taking up a roster spot.
with landry, deke, greene, and dorsey the rockets would be at 18 players. cut harris and woods, then find a new home for either hayes or luther. hopefully in a trade for a TE in which the rockets could earn a high second round pick.
If the decision is between Luther and Hayes, give me Hayes all day and twice on Sunday. He's actually useful in the playoffs. I think back to back choke jobs in the playoffs has really exposed Head. Barring a trade, Luther's going to have to beat out SF3 for the final roster slot, in my opinion.
there might be more trades coming...luther head is useless...i somehow like to give novak another chance
I've always had a soft spot for Luther for some unknown reason, but he still makes terrible decisions with the ball and cannot hit a basket in the postseason. Dead weight. It's a shame, really. He has the ability to be a darn good backup but the mental aspect kills it
I think Luther knows that he's going to get cut or traded. Before he'd always work out in the Toyota Center during the summers and now its just AB. Correct me if i'm wrong on this.
Same roster as last year. Dorsey takes Woods position unless Woods beats him out in Summer league. If Dorsey does not beat out Woods, then Dorsey is going to the NBDL. Francis is coming back. Greene will be in the NBDL. Barry takes Head's position. Rockets will trade one player and waive another to make room for Barry - most likely Head will be traded. Question is which player will get waived. Waiver player is most likely either Woods, Dorsey, Greene, Harris Novak stays
Should have traded Head when Van Gundy was here. He had his higest trade value then and he was at least respectable as a fantasy 3 pt specialist.
I think that is a pretty accurate run down of how it will play out. Harris or Woods will likely be the ones getting waived. There is a possibility both get cut and Dorsey gets brought in if he shows some promise this summer as a tough guy/shot blocker to decrease Deke's wear through the season (especially if Yao goes out). Plus if they want to groom Dorsey to be a defensive stopper, learning from Deke at every practice might be better than playing in the NBDL. I think they likely send Greene down to the NBDL and develop him a bit and teach him some shot selection. Hopefully his accuracy goes up(he's already a decent shooter) when he learns to pick his spots and then they can feel a bit better about letting a guy like Novak go in a trade later on. Most teams would like to keep at least one dead eye shooter like him on their bench and not everyone has one so he will be a trade asset if Morey is looking to turn Head and/or Stevie's expiring contract into something of more value to this squad.
He's just too much of a defensive liability. He's like Adam Morrison on D only he isn't out there enough for us to see how brutal it really is(like when Morrison was out there). Put it this way, Novak gets abused by 2nd and 3rd string players.... I like him, but we have to be realistic. From a "give to get" standpoint, I would rather have a three point shooter who maybe shoots a little worse than Novak but also gives up a lot less defensively than a guy who shoots one shot lights out, but gives up a couple of points every time on the other side of the floor.
