Heck, I would even give more money into the tip jar to see that happen, i think alot of people would actually. I'm not sayin a daily job, but I love this website and i would do it in a heartbeat to make this website that much better!
What I believe ends up happening is you create a rift between people that like or don't like one another, and it drives off users. The more people that visit the site the more unique hits that it gets the more $$$$ it generates, if you implement something that alienates the constituancy it eventually hurts the site. I kind of like Cabbage's idea but it has some flaws in clique forming etc. There is already thread rating on this site, but when you take it down to a level of user rating, and you have bias involved, it can get ugly. I can think of several people I don't want rating me...LOL. DD
Like i said i don't know much about this stuff, i'm just trying to generate some ideas for people to ponder. I understand where your coming from though. If it was the case of driving people away then why ban people? I don't think it is all about how many hits the website gets, rather than people actually getting something out of this website without all the non sense.
I wouldn't want the reputation feature to prop up the great posters... most of us know who is credible and worth reading. Mainly what I want is to provide a tool that allows the community to prop those who are providing value to the board and downgrade those who are bringing it down. Maybe this would be good, maybe not... worth trying it out I think. I'm looking at it, but basically there are lots of variables with it. A new poster could not come in and give you a big ding on your rep. To give you an idea, here are some of the settings you could do with it. The red text value is the default recommendation: Default Reputation (10) What reputation level shall new users receive upon registration? Number of Reputation Ratings to Display (5) How many ratings to display in the user's control panel. Register Date Factor (365) For every X number of days, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power. Post Count Factor (1000) For every X number of posts, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power. Reputation Point Factor (100) For every X points of reputation, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power. Minimum Post Count (50) How many posts must a user have before his reputation hits count on others? Minimum Reputation Count (10) How much reputation must a user have before his reputation hits count on others? Daily Reputation Clicks Limit (10) How many reputation clicks can a user give over each 24 hour period? Reputation User Spread (20) How many different users must you give reputation to before you can hit the same person again?
mmmm.... thats interesting, i say give it a shot and see what happens. I like the idea of only 1 rep hit a day from a person, so they cannot constantly bring it down.
Worth a try. I think post count shouldn't be a factor. That might encourage people to pad their counts by splitting posts. Besides, how much you post is simply unrelated to how credible you are in judging other posters.
Exactly! Lets say one day an extremely popular player have a terrible game and one member point that out resulting in him getting a ton of negative ratings from that player's fans and him getting ban.
i dont know i am all for this.. there's just wayy too many threads in the garm thats not worth reading. i think the board should go to complete lock down after a game for a couple of hours to prevent all these stupid reaction threads that can really go in the game thread.
No, because people will give you a negative for no reason just like the people who give people 1 stars because they don't agree with thread.
if MAJORITY of the board gives you a negative..it's probably deserved. but if 1 or 2 people give it..it shouldn't affect you overall. i got 2 negatives..but my rep is still ok.
