Interesting. I am not keen on taking that much stuff but I am very interested in sleeping better, memory and energy what 5 things would you recommend? Have you ever taken ST John's Wort? I did before and I think it helped me sleep well but that's when I had trouble going to sleep now I have issues staying alseep.
Thanks brother. I wouldn't take anything without first researching it (prescription meds included). I'm always looking to feel better and appreciate you sharing.
I have no trouble getting to sleep but I do have trouble staying asleep. If I keep to water only after 1pm and stay away from simple carbs after lunch, specifically eating only whole grains, I sleep much better. Absolutely no caffine after lunch. Supplements lose their potency if the body is loaded up with unhealthy food.
Bioavailability needs to be taken into account with supplements. For example vitamin d is fat soluble so it needs to be taken with some sort of healthy fat to be absorbed by the body (for me that’s avocado). Fish oil needs to be in triglyceride form to be absorbed by the body, and I only know of one brand that is (Nordic Naturals). When I was looking into Lions mane supplements, I gathered that basically nothing that is widely available is really doing anything due to how it is extracted.
Your verdict is it does nothing and is a waste of time because it's not made in a way it's absorbable? Why all the love for it then?
Lion’s mane specifically? I’m no expert and only know what I do because I was/am interested in it as well. I suppose if someone perceives that it’s helping them then that’s all that matters. I don’t doubt that in its natural form it has some cognitive benefits. From what I understand though, the challenge with nootropics is crossing the blood brain barrier and the Lion’s mane’s ability to do that is affected by how it’s extracted/processed into supplement form. I’ve tried it in a couple different ways including mushroom coffee and noticed no difference. I would definitely eat a ton of real lions mane if it were easily accessible though. Would like to try some lions mane jerky in particular.
Balanced diet Daily multivitamin Fish oil every other day Oatmeal as needed Glucosamine/Chondroitin every other day Low dose aspirin daily Full dose aspirin for pain as needed Cocktails and/or edibles for severe pain
Ashwagandha is great; it's one of the only supplements I use just because it has been well-researched and it does work After that I just take a multivitamin and fish oil; nothing else. There's always great sales for pills at Kroger I find
Never did **** for anxiety for me, at all. However, might give it another go, but not expecting anything for anxiety. What brand do you get?
Your issue is actually two-fold : 1) is what they say about the supplement really true; has it been proven or is it just being repeated online 2) is whatever form/brand you're taking the real stuff and not laced with cadmium or something (lol). The regulation on a lot of this stuff is so lax. Same thing with protein powders. A few years ago, they were detecting levels of arsenic or cadmium that exceeded recommended levels in stuff like EAS and Muscle Milk. A lot of the stuff you hear about is also a way to capture people into overpaying for stuff that probably does nothing for them, too. I remember for a while Noni juice was the craze. It cured and healed you of everything! For like $60-$70/bottle. Now you see it in avocado oils where many probably aren't even avocado oil. There was that UC Davis study a while back that tested something like 20-30 store-bought avocado oils and only 2 turned out to be non-rancid and pure avocado oil like they claimed. Like I said, bring greed/money with little regulation into anything and it gets effed up. I pretty much stick to a multivitamin and krill oil nowadays, and even that scares the hell out of me sometimes. lol.
