Does anyone STILL think we have NO CHANCE to make the playoffs?

That is what they were saying about the NY Giants. Yet, their "lackluster" play ended up beating the best team in the league. The team who was a juggernaut on offense. Rockets play good defense and they have the superstars. We will make it to the 6 seed I believe.

That's playing something like 0.350-0.390 ball. Schedule was tough in the beginning also. It looks harder and harder to get to 41 losses. Even if they lost 10 straight games in a row, they would have only 30 losses. That's 11 short of your goal.

Not my goal. Just the way things looked when they were around .500. I hope they win 60, but, realistically, probably going to be in the upper 40's. I made my prediction and I will stay with it. There are 33 games to go. If they go 17-16, that would be 46 wins. But, like I said, even 50 may not get them in the elite eight. Let's hope for the best.

I am sorry. I thought you were holding on to a prediction of 41-41. I misread it. I understand it has changed to upper 40s. I am totally with you there. They are more likely to be in the upper 40s than 41 wins. I'll be hoping for the best.

Even 50 may not get them in the elite eight? Wow, you are a pure genius. I can't say 100%, but I'm 99% sure 50 is good enough to get in playoffs. While, it is possible that the playoff eight may not be the same as your "elite eight".

One last memo on my take on this thread and a reminder to future posters that saying absolutes about a topic in sports is a sure fire way to get you embarrassed.

Brooks Ball is entitled to his opinion but, he gave no basis for his facts, he only analyzed the competition the Rockets are having to surmount to get into the playoffs. He never defended his position with any logical argument to justify his position. Lastly, he must have a VERY short memory that the Rockets are typically a second half team.

In recent memory we missed the playoffs in 2002-03, and 2005-06. Reason: Yao's first year and then,05-06 season, T-Mac plays 47 games and Yao 57 due to injuries plus, no real bench.

Now this year, new coach, completely new offensive philosophy, new FA pickups that largely have done nothing to contribute, a brutal first quarter to half schedule, difficulty keeping players healthy and thus, getting continuity and chemistry on the team. All that being said, we are now 30-20 and now, at least officially in the playoff picture.

So now we can safely assert the position that 'NO WAY' was a ridiculous position to take and that the Rockets ARE a definite playoff contender!

How far we go? Who knows ... but it should be one FUN ride to the finish! We may actually become the team no one wants to face in the playoffs, imagine that one! :D

Anyway BB, since your adroit post, the Rockets have now gone 10-1 and that loss would not have been if Yao doesn't get a DAMN upper respiratory infrection.

The moral of the story, NEVER GIVE UP ON YOUR TEAM! Because anything can and will happen.

    Let's Go Rockets!

In fairness to all concerned, a few weeks ago the Rockets were stuck at .500. They appeared lifeless and unmotivated. They seemed to be running in mud. They couldn't make a lay up, they couldn't hit a free throw. They were horrible.
After all of the super hyperbole of the Rocket's organization at the beginning of the season (It's Time), and the amazing off season, expectations soared and understandably so. The quick start added fuel to the fire. Then the collapse. James suddenly couldn't find the basket, Francis couldn't find the court, and TMac couldn't get well. The team went into a collective depression and so did many of the fans. It was at this time that much of the "no playoffs, no way" rhetoric began. During that time, I predicted a 41-41 finish: play like .500, finish at .500. Others expressed their frustration in various ways.

In retrospect, we appear to have been wrong. We spoke out of pain. I recall that even Clutch during this period said he could not imagine the Rockets winning more than the upper forties. Disappointment is a bitter pill for long suffering Rocket's fans. It has been TWELVE YEARS. The team has bumbled and fumbled. Management has made some truly brain dead trades and deals. Give us a break. We are true fans or we wouldn't be here. I am still not convinced that this team is going to really make any noise in the playoffs. I still want to see a string of wins against elite opponents. I am still looking for a team that "brings it" every night. I am still looking for a good sized PG that can shoot.

Now, I am restrained in my optimism. I don't know. The play of the rookies has been encouraging. We still have severe match up problems with the elite of the West. However, I was obviously wrong about their final record, UNLESS they go into a major nose dive. Please, Rockets don't break our hearts again.

Leprechauns 98, Spurts 90! First of 3 losses as I've predicted. If the Celts take care of business at charity stripe, this game is a straight up blowout! :D
