Help me out here...if you bring a new coach, new offensive system and have your best player miss 15 games, what's the problem with being 7 games above .500 halfway through the season? Subtract Garnett, Bryant, or Chris Paul from their teams for 15 games and see what happens. We're fine.

Both, and more. :D Incidently, I am still holding to 41-41 record WITHOUT a substantial personnel change like M. Miller, Cassell, or somebody meaningful. This team is just so lackluster, I can't see them tearing through the West. Can you? Hey, I hope they win 60. ;)

And, we are not fine. Not the way they are playing at present, inching past the scrubs of the league. They better kick it into another gear and soon.

I think Rox will still get around somewhere between 45-55 wins. On the high side, we will make playoff. On the low side, who knows. But I agree, I currently don't see Rox tearing through the West or the playoff. Another one round and out.

There are only two potential upside:
    - A major trade by the deadline
    - Landry or Scola really steps up. Landry is more likely, naturally, since he is super young, and his 15-footer has already been more reliable than Scola's.

Switch subject a bit, one thing I really like about Adelman is he is willing to play the rookies, hence giving the team a chance of getting significantly better by playoff time. So what if we lose a few games during the season because of it? Home court is not that critical anyway for Rox.

Landry appears to have a money shot. He is certainly the brightest light this season. Scola hasn't been bad either, really rugged, and pretty steady. I like both of them. I wish AB could catch fire and bump Rafer, but he looks sooo tenative out there. Come on AB, loosen up, relax. Put Rafer on the bench!

Still holding to 41-41? I'm speechless. Even at 20-19, I believed Rox had a good chance to make the playoffs WITHOUT any personnel change. Beware that they have a new coach, a new system, and three new rookies. It takes time. Now, they are not only fine but playing better and better. In playoffs, everyone have a chance to go all the way. Let's wait and see.

What is that, only 13 more wins? Yeah, I may have to revise soon, I am waiting for a sample against some good teams. Like I say, I hope they win 60. May be more in the mid to upper fourties, but I don't see them winning 50, do you? I just want them to start playing better, they are a pretty dull bunch (minus Landry) right now.

LOL, revise soon? You said "41-41 and no chance". While, I guarantee you that I can predict the future. I can predict tomorrow stocks' price precisely, I just revise and revise. Good luck to you! :D

Anything can happen. It is the reason why I love sports. The problem is that you kept saying "no way" or "no chance". If there is no way to win, why even bother to play? Just give up and go fishing. NY Giants' win is a good example. I do see them winning 50 and predict they will have a 50-32 or better record. I will not revise it later.

dude comparing this lifeless at times, unmotivated squad to the giants who IMO played so off the guttiest football over the last 6 to 8 weeks i probably ever seen is utterly ridiculous..........

The giants took over down the stretch and beat arguably the best football team in the history of the nfl....and really almost ruined there run in week 16 where it was there game to lose........they lost the game...pats didnt beat them in week 16.....IMO

and u compare that team to our rockets.....u cant be serious

thats like saying that if the playoffs started now the rockets would sweep the spurs......come on man..........hell find ten bbs'ers who say honestly in there mind that this current squad would win a 7 game series against dallas or san antonio right now today.............and is willing to bet on it........

    dont worry....I'll wait................ :p

At this point in their respective seasons, Manning was very up and down and they were losing games that they had no business losing. If the Giants had played all year like they played the last month they would have been 14-2 or 12-4. Their run was very similar to the Rockets of 94-95 beating the other division winners. On the Road.

i completely see the point....it is crystal clear the point.....

    all i am sayin is.......

no i got a better question???

is everyone saying that something magical is happening with this current roster over the last 16 and u all believe we have finally turned the corner and are headed for a first round win???

if so....i guess i just dont see it yet.......i see a team playing good as of late....not lights out....zero blowouts.....more 4th quarter collapes......but playin alot better but very far from great.........

if i see lights out for at least one week...........i will probably be more excited but as of now i see playoffs and first round defeat....IMO

i could be wrong and u guys are right....hell i hope u are right...i just dont see it as of yet

No, the Rockets havent gotten on a hot streak like the G-Men did. I dont know that they will. But as the Giants have proven, it is certainly possible. Therefore to say the Rockets have no chance(which you haven't) is assinine.

Remember in this recent streak are crunchtime wins over San Antonio, Golden State, and Portland. It hasnt all been pansies.

not saying theres no chance.......hell anything can happen.......not saying it not.....so please forgive me if thats what u think i am saying

    let me rephrase it then

me.....I....personally in my lil world and in my humblest opinion........have seen absolutely nuthin yet to make me personally believe that they have turned the corner yet.....not even the last 16 games have me yet......i need to see some real domination for a sustained period

Fixed it for ya Jsh. Saying they havent turned a corner yet(at least not in your eyes) is way different than zip zero nada chance at postseason. But the title of the thread is no chance.

My best way to sum up my POV on this subject is this,

    1. Early projection of the Rockets contending for the NBA title this year perhaps were inflated due to unrealistic expectations that our pickups (Francis, James and Head) have largely not been able to make good on. Head though is still a question mark IMO.

    2. We were not as good as our 6-1 record indicated out of the gate thus, fueling more unrealistic expectations.

    3. We were not as bad though as the next month and a half swoon indicated though. The team was in dire need of an identity and developing a formula for success.

    4. Enter the rookies ... Landry, Scola, and Brooks. While they obviously have lots to still learn, their enthusiasm and passion, had and continue to make a difference both on the court and in the locker room. They've injected some life into this mostly dead and dull franchise of the past decade.

    5. To become a good or even a great team you have to do two things:

one, you have to take care of your business at home. To be determined.

two, you have to beat good playoff bound teams. Have done not bad in this category. Wins at Phoenix, at Portland, at LA Lakers. Wins over Denver, Portland, GS, SA (twice). But, have gotten punk'd by No and Dallas save for one game a piece where we accidentally competed and should have won.

    6. As previously mentioned, the Rockets have a GOLDEN opportunity`to make up ground this month. Both with a softer schedule and a TON of home games. We lose no more than 3 games this month and we may have the momentum we need to become a serious player in the playoff schedule.

    7. March is **** or get off the pot month. We will either have what it takes to be one of the big boys or we will crash and burn. Again, need to develop cohesiveness, chemistry and confidence to become one of the big boys. Can't afford any slumps and the schedule will not be forgiving at all. We will definitely be tested.

    8. Many obstacles, many questions still to be answered Can our bench continue to be an asset especially against superior talented teams. Can the rookies continue to contribute positive plays, passion, enthusiasm to inspire the team to victories? Our perimeter game. Will it get better? I hope so. Will we do a better job of executing the fundamentals? Fewer turnovers, better and more consistent defense, better FT shooting, and more improved FG shooting?

In light of today's article in the Chronicle it appears the Rockets are going with what they got for the stretch run. I personally believe it's enough to get into the playoffs but, to go deep to say at least the conference finals or even the NBA finals well, lets just say there's LOTS of room for improvement and everyone better start stepping up their game because that's what it will take and nothing less!

They'll have to go 13-21 the rest of the way for that to happen. I don't see that happening.

I hope you are right, but check the schedule. There are some brutal stretches ahead. Hope for a hot streak, but a slump could do them in. The biggest problem is the Rockets are in the West, a record of 50 wins could still not be enough to break the elite eight.

Expectations were so high, and the disappointments so low, that now everything is uncertain. The Rockets are winning yes, but still don't seem like they are clicking like we thought they would. They still can, but it must happen soon. They could really sneak up on people, because I think most of the contenders have written them off. At least the sports media has.

we have won 9 of 10 since tmac has been back and he's not even back 90%. he'll get better. yao will get his groove back REAL soon. scola is improving. everybody is basically can improve individually.

when we face that tough stretch, we'll get it by the neck and just manhandle whoever we face.
