Shoot, I haven't heard about Mr. Norman for like 15 yrs! YomYom Mr. Norman!

My favorite was Pick Your Part, the auto junkyard commercial.

"At pick your part, you can pick your part, cause that's just what we do........So Pick your part at pick your part/c'mon cars.....Its's just right for you!/ Aowwww PIck Your Part!"

Chief Jay Strongbow was a member of the NWA, and held the tag team titles on a few occasions. A better tag team was Wahoo McDaniel and Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat in 1983.

Hacksaw Jim Duggan did end up in the WWF. I believe his debut in the WWF was 1986 or 1987. He successfully battled cancer in 1998 and made a comeback in Ted Turner's WCW until that promotion folded in 2001. I think he still takes indie bookings to this day. Great wrestling talent and a genuinely nice guy.

I'm not sure if the Warrior started in Houston Wrestling. Mid-South had merged with the UWF at the time and it was absorbed into the NWA. The UWF merging into NWA is how NWA wound up with Sting, Eddie Gilbert and a few others.

Was Leaping Lanny Poffo a Houston Wrestler? My memories are a little jumbled up.

Also, what did the Junkyard Dog have written across his a$$? THUMP?

My dad's sitting here with me and he used to live in Houston back in the days of Paul Bosch and the sponsors were Bill Varley Tires (Stutterin' Bill Varley, as Dad remembers him) and Wiley Alexander Insurance (who wore big cowboy boots and 10-gallon hat and would point a finger like a pistol toward the viewer and say, "And I got you covered!"

    Some names of wrestlers:

    Wahoo McDaniel, who died this past April;

Ernie Ladd (former pro football player, as was McDaniel).

Johnny Valentine (whose son later was a wrestler).

Mil Mascaras (sp?), a Mexican wrestler (Thousand Masks?). His wife didn't know that the Sunday morning show was the same as was aired Saturday night.

    Junkyard Dawg (already mentioned).

There was a spectator (a large lady) who screamed while running around carrying a makeshift club (he likes to think of her as "the hatchet lady.")

Not completely sure, but I don't think so. Lanny Poffo's brother is "Macho Man" Randy Savage. I believe that Savage got Poffo his start in the WWF.

Juscious Johnny V was also a manager in the WWF in the late 1980s. He managed the Rougeau Brother for a time, but his "Dream Team" of Brutus Beefcake and Greg "The Hammer" Valentine (his son) was his claim to managerial fame. They held the WWF tag titles more than once.

As a child, I always wondered, "Why doesn't he use a real hacksaw, instead of that 2 by 4?" 'Cause really, a hacksaw is a far superior weapon.

    (I think I just self-diagnosed myself with Asperger's.)

    Hellz yeah!

    Hacksaw Jim Duggan
    Kerry Von Erich
    Jake The Snake

They even had The Road Warriors on from time to time.

The only thing I recall seeing is this entire montage with Jake the snake vs. some blond dude. They were portraying the blond dude as this legendary hero, and Jake the snake as his foil.

All I know is I never heard about the blond dude again, and I saw Jake go national and turn into a "good guy" type of character.

Even as a child, I thought the whole setup looked ridiculous.

yep, same memories here. I didn't take to it too long, but still have "LLame Mr. Norman" in my head, and a couple of friends of mine still bust it out where possible in humorous conversation.

"¿Problemas con su casa? LLAME Mr. Norman!

Those ears on Paul Boesch looked horrific, I always thought that was a seriously weird way to advertise, but I remember it like it was yesterday, so ...

Was the "Iron Sheik" houston wrestling?

Used to watch with my Dad every Sunday morning. LOL at "lamma Mr Norman!"

I remember Tony Atlas wrestling some dude and the guy actually threw up on him. To this day, I don't know if the barf was fake or maybe the guy pulled an all-nighter the previous night.

My Dad used to tell me that during the commercial breaks, the wrestlers would go into the crowd and start beating up random audience memebers. It scarred me for life and I never wanted to go see it live.

I still remember the opening theme. Nothing get's you fired up for some wrestling like a rock-version of The Nutcracker Suite. :D
