Why we couldn't find a team that wanted him for a good player in return is beyond me. Having Louis and Kevin on the court at the same time is miserable. When he is healthy we need to bring him off the bench with Patterson. Defense has been key in the way we are playing right now.
Not exactly sound logic. It could easily be that Morey couldn't find suitable player(s) from the Bulls to make a KMart trade work. Just like the fact that the Rockets kept talking about Camby over the years doesn't mean they dislike Aldridge. If Morey had been willing to give them Martin for Asik during those Lee rumors, I'm 99% certain KMart would be a Bull right now.
It's amazing to me that Shane Battier can fetch the #8 pick (which turned out to be Rudy Gay) in the draft, but I'm not sure we could even get the #14 pick for Kevin Martin right now. My how things change so quickly. We should have remained vigulant about trading him, even after the Gasol deal got Sterned. I'm sure Morey was thinking that Martin would hold his value, but with the rule changes (no more jumping into players for cheap foul shots), and the change from Adelman's offense to McHale's, it was inevitable that he would not repeat last year's success. It didn't take a rocket scientist to know he was at peak value. We should have made use of it, especially with a back-up PG who was more than capable of moving over for some minutes at the 2position. This is not a "blame Morey" post, but it really does illuminate another aspect of how bad the Stern veto was for our team. Scola and Martin were traded at peak value, and now neither would likely fetch a late lotto pick. So sad.
The Kevin Martin hate on this board is so thick it can be cut with a knife. When he returns from his injury, you can best believe he`s gonna help this team make a 1st round upset against whoever it is we play. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/pDHxjSeWb1I" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Okay, now I feel bad for doubting him. And injuries suck. Still, I don't think he's a fit for this team. Let him get surgery if he needs it. He can come back next year. If he gets well quickly, we can trade him; if his health is going to be an issue, we can heartlessly amnesty him. But I hope he heals up, for his own sake.
Man he's messing up my fantasy team with his Day-to-day status. I wish they would just consider him out so i can put him in my IR spot and pick up somebody else....SMH
I like this idea, Martin is a great front runner but he has been terrible this season at getting buckets when we need buckets. He is obviously affected by pressure. Let him come in with the bench and fire away in low pressure situations and then let Lowry, Dragic and Lee close out the game. The guy is a proven scorer but he is a terrible closer.
A slight tear huh? I do want him to get better, but honestly the Rockets are better without him, the ball moves better, everyone else gets more touches, and they are finishing better as a team. He is a clear case of addition by subtraction. DD
Explains it all. When Kevin Martin is healthy he is one of the most efficient scorers in the league and when healthy his defense isn't as bad as many on this board claim. That didn't change overnight because he quit on the team. He was an elite scorer in this league pre-injury and God knows we could still use that. If he heals soon he can help us in the playoffs. People forget he had to adjust to new rules and a new coach and offensive system. In the beginning of the year they wouldn't give him any calls. It was ridiculous. It was almost like the league sent out a memo don't call fouls on Martin. Later the league toned back their stupidity a bit and Martin adjusted his game. But Mchale wasn't using him in the offense very well either. Finally McHale figured out Martin was important to this team. As a result Martin scored 20+ points 8 out of 10 of those games before the reinjury and averaged 29 points in those 8 games. Anyone who thinks we can't use Martin's offense on this team is whacked. Whether that's as a 6th man or starting I'll let McHale decide but we definitely would benefit from a healthy Martin on this team.
