Does anyone else think Dwight Howard is coasting?

Discussion in 'Houston Rockets: Game Action & Roster Moves' started by Swishh, Jan 1, 2015.

?

Do you think Dwight Howard may be coasting through the regular season?

  1. Yes.He's been battling injuries the past few seasons, so he's coasting to be fresh for the playoffs.

  2. No, I think this is just how Dwight's going to be from now on. His age / mileage is getting to him.

rockets may lose seeding because of his masquerade act. I would rather see a healthy 100 % black or anyone else out there than a 30% howard.

One off game? I'm one game behind on catching up and I've already noticed it for a couple games. He has had issues with his mechanics and still did this summer. I'm not sure if they're gone (doubt it), but it's clear that they wore out that knee prematurely. The way he's moving now, he's having problems and there's a possibility it could get worse. The fact alone that he's out there trying to go, while watching his steps, puts him at a higher risk for injury.

And he should get touches. He's clearly our number 2, hitting 60% of his shots. It would be in our best interest to get him the ball.

The guy came back from having knee problems, has a couple bad games and everybody turns on him. Dwight wasn't the only Rocket to stink it up in those games either. He was pretty efficient against the Spurs (the last game they looked like an actual team).

He's defiantly not. In sure he has his games where he turns it up but anyone that plays sports they know they could have put more of an effort in. That's why playoffs are tough because slot of times role players can turn into huge assets and deciders of games because of the energy and effort everyone is bringing

If he gets good low position he can have the ball as much as he wants.

Dwight's problem is he thinks he's Hakeem and he's not. If Dwight gets the ball 10 feet away and has to make a series of moves, it almost always ends very poorly. When he gets good position close like he did tonight, or against Portland, he is an extremely effective weapon.

A lot of times when Dwight gets good low position, they don't get him the ball or get him the ball too late. Dude is almost automatic from the paint.

I agree with the rep to a point. Great players give max effort more times than not. People tend to use money/contract when defining a great player. I'm not sure that's fair. Yes you want your max players to be great, but if they aren't you at least want great effort.

My problem with Dwight is he seems to think he should be gifted this badge, whereas Harden goes out and takes it. I want to see Howard go out there and make it happen, he's too talented not to. Great players are great a large percentage of the time, not just when they feel like it. This is the disappointing thing with Dwight for me.

You can't be at 110% all the time. Look at what happened to DRose. He knows we need him on the court at minimum for his defensive presence. Just him standing around in the lane doing absolutely nothing still forces the offense to change their plan.

thats what i miss so much about asik. Even though he was terrible on offence, just having him on the floor int he paint did wonders

To me it seems like something bigger may be going on.

He's always chirping at his teammates, and last night there were several instances where didn't challenge layups, and was straight up out-hustled to loose balls and rebounds. Don't think you can blame all of that on not being 100%.

if asik wasn't getting the ball he was always somewhere trying to set a SOLID pick for the ball hander to get free for a 3 or drive.

when howard FEELS like setting them its always half-effort and he always wants to half roll, meaning : hes not setting them willing to get players free, hes just going through the motions.

I will say hes been trying to set them a lil more since the losses, McHale and the guys have talked to him about it I assume for more movemnet, but it will slow down eventually...I've saw this before.

I'm starting to think Kobe and Durant were right about Dwight.

Yeah, he was a disappointment again last night. This is one of those issues where the box score doesn't tell the story. His numbers are decent-ish, but that's about it. There was one instance last night in the 4th quarter where guys were scrapping over a rebound. Bev was the shortest guy on the floor and of course fighting the hardest for it, and the other 3 Rockets were in the mix as well. Where was Dwight? Just kind of standing back behind the scuffle, watching. It can be infuriating.

I am starting to think Howard is just a good player, not a great player as we expected.
