I enjoy watching WNBA games. Good basketball is good basketball. You'll see better fundamentals at a WNBA game than at most NBA games.

As Kornheiser says, Taurasi's the best female player ever, but she couldn't even bring the ball up past the line in the NBA.

Come on now. Sheryl Swoopes plays pick up games with NBA types during the offseaon and does just fine. Give the girls a little bit of credit.

WNBA's 1st year was 1996. Yes, I watch the Comets when I can. I also watch other teams if they have a certain player that I want to see (Diana Taurasi, Sue Bird, Katie Douglas, Holdsclaw, etc...).

Don't watch it if you expect the NBA. It's not about that. It's women's game playing at the highest level in basketball. Take it for what it's worth. If you go in looking for flashy dunks and high flying athletes. Go elsewhere.

It's slower pace, and less flashy But it's pure. And they play hard.

I DO miss Cynthia Copper raising the roof, and kicking everyones butt!

I would love to see an exhibition game between the WNBA all-star team and their pick of any team in the NBA, to test the theory put forth that some WNBA players could play at an NBA level. It would also be interesting to see if they picked the worst team, or showed some guts and picked a good team to really try to prove something, not like Billie Jean King playing an ancient Bobby Riggs.

Many of the WNBA players practice with the men's team of their respective cities. We're not talking about "domination" or anything like that. We are talking about professional women athletes playing at the hightest level. They can compete. True, they do get burned by their male counterparts. But they also can return the favor.

I think it would be more interesting to see a professional women's team play against some of the men on this BBS. Yeah, you know? Those weekend warrior YMCA types that "think" they could play in the NBA if they just got that chance. OH, yes! That would be great to watch your average male bb player (gym rat) get whipped by the pro-women ALL-Star team. Now, that would be funny! I really believe that most 14-24 year old weekend warriors don't really know how good these women are. Remember, these women practice against the NBA players. So, unless you're normal competition is at that level, don't even bother showing up.

Resdawg, Obvious English is not your strong area because you failed to to acknowledge the qualifying word, GOOD.

Anyways I like the WNBA (although I do not follow it fervently like I used to). I think the reason I followed it passionately was because we had a team. Anything Hopuston usually gets me pumped up ....well save for the Aeros (just never got going on them). As long as the Comets exist, I will continue to have a soft spot for them.

I even recorded one of the Championship ring ceremony events/game (the one following the death of Kim Perrot) and up until last year I would pop it into my VCR for some emotional arousal and nostalgia. I am not ashamed to say that it make me wet around my pupil atimes which completely baffles my wife.

    Go Comets!

Yeah... I saw an interview with Cynthia Cooper where she took credit for coining (?) "raise the roof." She said something like, "Yeah, one game I was really excited and the girls and I thought it looked cool. It's been a big hit ever since."

    Embarassing

Cooper got it from the late Kim Perrot (died from cancer). The reason that Cooper got the credit was because she hit more clutch shots during the play-offs and started doing the "raise the roof" motion. She used it to get the get the crowd into the game after a big shot.

Kim was ok with it. They were best friends.

That's 23 year old Lauren Jackson, Sue Bird's teammate in Seattle and the current MVP of the league. She's an Aussie so I guess less uptight about nudity (the photo book that picture is from has her in several full length nude shots with only her lower frontal region unexposed)

here's what she looks like clothed

The WNBA is absolute trash. Who wants to watch a bunch of slow, bulky women shoot layups? I'd rather watch HS basketball any day of the week.

And those of you posting pics, please stop. If you saw one of them in a bar, you wouldn't look twice.
