I freakin hate that top 10% rule. I go to St. Johns School which is like ultra hard. YOU have to totally devote your self to studying and nothing else to get top ten. Also, there are only 150 people in my grade. But its cool because I have sports. IF you can play a D1 sport, then you can bypass the 10% rule.

The next time I have meat and mashed potatoes, I think I'll put a very large blob of potatoes on my plate with just a little piece of meat. And if someone asks me why i didn't get more meat, ill just say, "Oh, you mean this?" and pull out a big piece of meat form inside the blob of potatoes, where ive hidden it. Good magic trick, huh?

I think using class rank at all is a bad idea. Some people go to schools with smarter folks. Even from class to class at the same school, you can get some serious variances in what grades correspond with what rank.

For example, my former wife had a 78% GPA in high school, and she was ranked in the bottom half of our class. A good friend of mine graudated the next year from the same high school. He had a 76% GPA, but he was in the top half of his class. That's just one example where a person with a lower GPA can be ranked higher than someone with a higher GPA.

And the differences from school to school is likely worse (to use my cousin as an example. She wouldn't have been the in the top half of my school with her grades, but she'd automatically get to go to UTexas based on her rank at her school. Even though I was 15 points higher than her in the GPA department, I would have a hard time getting in (if I could get in at all) while she would be guaranteed admission. I had a 90% GPA, and I wasn't even in the Top 25% of my class (I just missed it).

Does anyone know the standards held bygeorgetown? I took the SAT in 7th grade last year and got a 1130. Judging from other students in my class, i will probably graduate some where 2-7. I start on the "a" team in basketball.

1130 is awesome for an 8th grader. Georgetown is a pretty prestigous school.

I also don't believe in the 10 % rule. Not everyone can come to UT, that's why we have schools like atm and utep. [IMG]

Word on campus is that even the transfer students who got accepted for this fall were forced to wait for spring 2001. The campus is getting very crowded.
