I'm totally ambivalent because, much like the Astros, this team has much bigger issues than who the coach/manager is.

and as a professional basketball player, he has to have a coach to get him to play defense? that doesn't speak real well of him.

yet the pistons made Rip Hamilton into a serviceable defender.

It doesn't but that's the NBA we live in today. What more important in AAU ball? Scoring or boxing out?

KMart's been in the NBA for quite a while. I don't get the impression he's a defensive beast waiting to happen.

Were you opposed to Van Gundy being fired?

6'6 did excellent job in the past season, more than most centers in the league. ppl here intend to think block, steal, and other are good indication of defense. no, it's wrong info. a good defense is a team defense, staying in front of opponent, helping each other, boxing opponent out for rb, limiting easy baskets, and making opponent a jump shooting team. if you consistently let opponent walk by you, even you had yao in the middle it would have had no effect. he would have been out in first a few minutes. lee is not a good defender. i know it sounds weird. at least he hasn't learnt how to defend opponent to make whole team a better defense team. ra's players tend to gamble on stealing and focus on individual defense. it works only when you have all five defense mindset players on the court.

does that explain the tons of missed defensive assignments too? player not getting back on transition?

I'm not saying having 2 shot blockers won't help but there has to be defensive accountability or you have to sit and come off the bench.

so just to understand you correctly....the reason the rockets weren't a good defensive team is because of rick adelman. is that what you're saying?

maybe if we didn't have a bunch of one-way players on this roster, that would be easier for a coach to handle.

aside from all that...do you expect that one of these potential coaches is going to do a better job with the Houston Rockets than Rick Adelman did? really?

I didn't like the Idea of JVG getting the can because the problem was pure personal. We had zero bench.

In this case we have NOTHING. Role players with no real core. We aren't playing for a championship this coming season.

i agree with that. that's why i said, i don't have a problem with someone saying they're ok with rick being gone because we have nothing for him to work with.

i don't get the criticism for adelman as a coach, though. i think he got more from this group of "role players with no real core" than can be reasonably expected from any of the guys on our list of candidates.

No, I'm not saying that. I'm saying that Our next coach should instill a stronger defensive philosophy so when we DO HAVE TALENT we have a solid foundation of defense.

I respect Rick but for this rebuilding team that should be getting younger and more athletic I want Hard-nose defense.

all good. i agree entirely with that. i would rather have a coach who thinks defense first. i did not like the van gundy firing, and the alexander approach of, "we need to be more exciting." winning is exciting, no matter how you do it.

he squeezed more on offense end from his player than on defense.
