Ok, so some people will hate to see Steve, Cat, and Cato go, but don't count me as one of them. Truth is that I think Steve is a very good player, All-Star caliber, but the bottom line is that he has reached his cieling as far as "Star" status goes. The same goes for Cuttino. In my opinion, both of these players are in their prime, but still don't compare to McGrady. As far as Cato's talent cieling, well he reached that when he blocked those 6 shots in that preseason game a few years back. For those who are sweating over losing these three players please spare me. This is not 3 for 1 as many people continue to suggest, if it goes down at all. We would be giving up a lower tier All-Star, and two role players for a perennial MVP candidate (who is 25), and two other serviceable players (Howard/Declerq). I for one will take this risk and live with it if it does happen. I will take the risk of acquiring a MVP type player who, not in 1 year, but in 2 years could have us back in the championship. I will take the risk because I refuse to sit back 4 years from now and ask myself "what if". I guarantee all of you that if this does not go down b/c the Rockets had cold feet we will all ask that "what if". Pack your bags Stevie, Cat, and Cato because there is no way I'm sitting back and letting a chance to pair the next big thing at Center and arguably the best SG in the league slip through my fingers.
I'm glad to see ESPN thinks for you ... You should try doing it on your own some time Rookies in the NBA don't get the ball every time down the court ... that's the way it is .. Bottom line .. It was a transition period .. We all know YM wasn't ready to dominate this past season especially nearing the end of the season as he is still battling fatigue problems, so what makes you think he was ready to dominate constantly his rookie season. He will get there, but coming from where Yao did it is going to take some time. I for one am for the trade because T-Mac is that good of a player, but do you really think that T-Mac is going to defer(nor should he!) completely to Yao and with Steve gone all your problems will be solved?
No No No!!! I can't read that freezing out thing and not say a thing about it. Yao Ming would get tired and would just float outside. Yao Ming still did that this year but a lot less. Hopefully next year he can be a lot more ready to take the pounding that comes with playing every other day NBA basketball in the Paint. Steve might not have utilized Yao the way the MEDIA wanted! There was a little bit of a struggle for the way the future would play for the Rockets, but the reality was and has been that Yao is still a ways a way from dominating the NBA, as he shall one day. Yao's Rookie season was still on Steve's shoulders. Last year the fate of the team started to shift to Yao's shoulders. Next year the Rockets season and fate will soley fall on Yao first and anybody including McGrady second.
Hell yeah I'll miss him!! I'll still keep up with him though and hope that he sets career highs in everythign next season and I'll continue to vote for him in the all star games I still don't want him to leave.
I can guarantee you no team will get a deal done without knowing they can get McGrady signed to an extension.
Of course he shouldnt!!! Unlike Steve he isnt playing the playmaker point guard position and wont be called upon to keep passing to Yao. The new starting Point guard will of course be called upon to pass to Yao when he is open, set and calling for the ball. A thing that Francis refused to do on many occasions .
I say lets trade any other player on our team but Steve, do whatever it takes to make the team better. McGrady is a once in alifetime oppertunity, I agree. But he didn't like being "coached". He loved being the one and only, and that got him to the worst record in the league.
