So I've been wondering lately. I see commercials and ads at stores for 5-hour energy and other drinks of its ilk. They claim to have no caffeine, low calories and low to no sugar (not sure on that last one). So are these things just placebos? Are they full of stuff like ginseng or something? And has anyone tried them and can attest to their effectiveness?
5 Hour Energy DOES have caffeine. It does have very little sugar and taste just a little better than cough syrup. They do work as I use them sparingly. The lemon-lime flavored is the best to me followed by grape and orange. Berry is the one that really taste like cough syrup.
Their commercials give me headaches. They are filmed with some weird lens. Makes me feel sleepy or something. Its freaking weird. Should be illegal.
5-hour works pretty well, haven't tried the copycats. Like others said, it does have caffeine. I think about the same as a cup of coffee. It's mainly that and a heavy dose of Vitamin B12. It's nice because it works a little better than coffee and it doesn't fill you up, not to mention you don't have to down a whole cup of coffee.
It gives you your yearly required dose of Vitamin B6 in one simple shot. I take one every New Year's Day.
They work, but they always make me sick. I simply don't get tired because I have severe stomach pain that is stronger than my tiredness. The 5 hour extra (not sure of the name, but the extra strength version) tastes better. It certainly doesn't taste good, but some of the other ones taste like battery acid, so...
I've had good luck with the 5 hour energy. I don't get the jittery stomach like with no-doze or tons of coffee. It doesn't give me the super hyper burst like those things either but kicks things up just a slight bit over the whole time. I like it that way. As far as taste, it may not be good but it's so much better than Red Bull or other "energy drinks" that are so grossly sweet I can't stomach them.
If I knew people were really this stupid I would've easily come up with some sort of "BS" energy shot/drink. BS is in quotation marks because they do actually work, but only because of all the vitamin B they put in them. Do yourself a favor and save some money by just taking Vitamin B-Complex pills. It promotes natural energy and does the trick when you're tired.
As a college student who has pulled off multiple all-nighters, I can say this works pretty well. Afterwards though, you feel like ****.
