Gummi... This is damamge control... But there are 2 body parts that are the hardest to deal with 1) Back 2) Knee They are the hardest to diagnose, especially the knee. The Doctor's are looking at Pics and looking for specifics in that picture and Sometime's what they see can be wrong... You would be shocked how many people get mis-diagnosed on a DAILY basis.
funny thing is that Dr. Clanton was never definitive in that statement, he says "I think". But him saying "I will take the blame" it sounds to me that there was a situation where more than one person was at fault and someone who necessarily isn't at fault (or deserves less of the blame) decides to take all the blame for the greater good. of course people will say I am reading too much into this. I do think that this is PR for McGrady and the good doctor is taking the blame I do not think its going to matter to him since he is the TEAM doctor and the Rockets brass know the whole truth to the matter even if us fans are kept in the dark. Anyways...the team looks to be moving on without him, we fans should do the same. I hope he has a full recovery but this team this year has plenty of weapons still and has played a lot better without him
So what more time off would have fixed his microfracture issue? Please, this is all bs, its t-backneww trying to fix his broke image.....can't wait until his contract ends so we can give Yao someone who can actually help him...
u do know doctors really care about their reputation right? hell, one thing every medical professional cares about its his reputation. if that's gone, no patient is going to trust you. why would he risk this saying he made a mistake just to do a PR? it doesn't matter if he still receives money from the team and makes millions. no random patient is going to trust the guy.
i think with shane being out, there was pressure from the team for him to play. so dr. clanton and him thought he had to play. no doctor would see a guy limping out there in that kings preseason game and deem him ready. you're playing against the best athletes in the world and a guy "limping" is deemed ready to play. that's clearly on the rockets' medical staff. he should never have played the first month. NEVER. it doesn't matter if tracy rehabbed right or not. if a guy is limping, you don't let him go play against the best athletes in the world. really, it's common sense.
Dr. Clanton is known world wide...I dont think he will have any problems having people trust him. He didnt misdiagnose anything...in fact, the other top surgeons in the country agree with him as well. In regards to having him come back too early, read his quote carefully...seems to be that TMac should have done a lot more. Its like saying that if Kobe misses a game winner, the team wont go to him the next time the game is on the line.
let me put it to you this way: if you're a doctor for the rockets, and you see tracy limping majorly in that kings preseason game, do you let him play on it? it's a simple question. the first sign of limping -> knee is weak. get it strengthened. if he didn't rehab much then, let him use the first month to rehab. there is no reasonable explanation for a guy to limp in a professional game. no reason unless it's game 7 of the playoffs.
maybe if I did this.... maybe if I did that.... It's over now no matter what was the reason. Let's move on...
This could be the same DocRocket who posts insider news on clutch. On one hand, he has to save Tmac's face for the sack of organization. On other hand, he is sick of T-slack.
Its ultimately TMac's decision to play or not play. If he assures the team he can play...and tests, MRI's, xrays, etc show that TMac's knee has no major damage, then TMac will be on the court. The strengthening of the knee is all on TMac. No doctor can make TMac work hard off the court. If he is limping, but insists on being on the court, that decision is on him. Doctor's only do so much. At the end of the day, it is the players decision to play or not play...to rehab properly or not...to sit when needed. The Rockets attempted to shut him down...TMac rehabbed and claimed to be back to his old self. In the end, he just doesnt have it. I dont blame the doctors in this.
Wait a minute, guys. . . . Look again at the quote. *** The doctor indicates that the microfracture surgery might not have been necessary. *** They knew about the condition in April. They chose arthroscopic instead of microfracture. Now Dr. Clanton is saying "Perhaps if we had strengthened his knee more at the start, maybe he wouldn't have had these symptoms." In other words, more rehab might have avoided the present microfracture surgery. Clanton does not admit any fault for doing the arthroscopic procedure, but allows the possibility that T-Mac did not properly rehab his knee afterward.
Oh for goodness sakes. This isn't about whether or not Tracy could play. We all know he can still play... hell, he's been doing it all season long. The question is how effective could he be? The way he has actually been playing this season... the answer is, not very effective. The missed dunk was the last straw. It seems to me that once that happened, Tracy took a step back and realized that it was hurting him more than he realized. Stop acting like Tracy is a "woman." He's battled through numerous injuries for this team and it seems like he just got sick of it and decided to have the surgery so that he could have a shot at being more effective. Personally, I'm glad he is going to have the surgery. He was not very good this season, and it was obvious the pain was affecting his playing. Now he can have the surgery, rehab, and come back strong next season. If he rehabs well and comes back and proves that he can still be a damn good player, then I will be more than happy to see him in a Rockets uniform again.
seriously, limping on the court? were we desperate for him to play. i don't care what tracy was saying. a limping player never helps the team. watch any normal sports game, any sports. you see player limps, you take him out of the game. it's that simple.
after yao went down last year, mcgrady had to take the extra burden of responsibilities. he fought like a hero in the playoffs before he went under the knife. (what happened during the summer, we don't know.) then it came the training camp. yeah, he's out of shape. so? so was francis the season before, you know. if mcgrady had the surgery in may, how do you expect him to rehab in the summer, huh? then tragedy happened to him. all the top notch docs had it wrong. 3 or 4 of them all had it wrong. they told him and the team that he should be able to play through where in fact he couldn't. morey and adelman forced the issue, too. and les wants to make extra money. so he was back to action too soon. after a while, after a failed dunk in a game, mcgrady couldn't take it anymore. he had to tell the truth and finally looked at things from his own perspective. he traveled across the country and finally found a doctor who told him what he had thought all along. he was brave. he couldn't wait to tell the truth. he told an espn anchor first that he needed a surgery, though he still had 2 doctors to see at the time. #1 has always been the heart and soul of this team since he got houston. he's sacrificed tremendous amount of ________ (i'm out of words here, someone help me pls) for the team and all his teammates around him. we all wish him the best and come back strong and take 25-30 shots a game again, so he can be his old self and average 25pts+. (weeping ) this is the best storyline i came up with for the mcgrady fans. may not be good enough, but hey, i tried. after all, we all believe/reject what we choose to.
More then half the board are idiots. The bottom line is, is, if TMac is as soft and mentally weak as everybody think, he wouldn't have even tried to play this season, PERIOD. He would have thrown in the towel a long time ago. TMac hasn't handled this situation well no doubt, but some of you idiots are showing your true colors. PR move? For what? The haters are still hating. They would've no matter the outcome. TMac can do nothing but wrong. But like somebody said, last year, especially after Yao goes down, ain't nobody hating on TMac. 22 game winning streak, all praise TMac. TMac is out for the year. Maybe forever in a Rockets uniform. Some of you idiots seriously think the Rockets are doing PR to keep his trade value intact or whatever but any sane person will know that if the Rockets do deal TMac, it's because the other team wants an expiring contract. Not because they think TMac is gonna be some saviour. What's the point of doing PR? Tracy's image? Conspiracy theorists, I swear. The hate is so strong that if tomorrow a miracle happened and TMac was 100%, half the board wouldn"t want him back. How idiotic is that? Like I said, idiots all abound here the bbs. Don't believe me? Check out this board after every loss and see the type of threads that pop up.
I don't know if anyone remembers but I said months ago that medicine is an inexact science. I also preached sitting down Tracy for health reasons as well as performance reasons. Effort > Talent. In the playoffs you'll often see that Experience > Effort. We had other players playing harder and we should have used our golden bullets later in the season. One thing is for sure. Tracy has redeemed himself. Some chronicle writers and radio hosts have egg on their face.
i think tracy wanted to play and play well. he didn't and got frustrated and really mishandled the situation. he should have sat out the first month of the season and rehab. the moment i saw him limp, and that limp lasted more than a month, i knew it was a bad season.
Okay, well, Im not sure about the severity of the limp...but if it was as bad as you claim it to be, then its on adelman to take him out. If adelman asks to take him out and TMac says he's fine, then its on TMac. There are many times in a game that a player tweaks something and limps around...thats part of sports and a lot of players play through it.
I would like to also add it is totally understandable that T-mac would make this decision on his own. He trusted his body in the Tom Clanton's hands and look where it got him. Considering the circumstances Alexander, Morey, & Adelman should give the guy some slack. I totally see it from T-mac's perspective now. I wish him good health and hope he can come back to help the Rockets.
I'm not going to call it hate, but there is a hurt that people won't let go. I mean, why would any doctor basically say I effed up and mess his name up over tracy? In the medical field as well as most any profession, word is bond or work is bond. There is a reason why players fly across the country to see Andrews. Now all of a sudden, Doctors are going to take the blame for a pr image? What the f@!k ever. I've been mis diagnosed during my college sports career, Grant Hill was mis diagnosed, Yao was mis diagnosed, doctors are human. I never thought he shouldve played at the beginning and shouldve sat like shane. Then certain people wouldve called it minor and he's being a wuss. Well, he's out the lineup and some are happy, some are sad, and some don't care. The team is playing well right now and that's all that matters, but the conspiracy theorist will always have something new to come up.
