Trust me, since you're a med student, you probably know more than 90% of these people that are talking out their J-Lo sized booty.
Well that's the thing sir, first off it sounds as if the Doc went off his own assumption. The thing I have yet to here is what the PT had to say. A good Doc will rely on his PT to see how far his patient is. When the Doc does exam T-Mac he will look at Flexibility in his knee to see if it's SOUND and HOLDING up... Now here's the other factor in this entire scenario besides T-Mac also not handling his business correctly. You have to remember that this is a business and it's the doctor's job to get the Product (T-Mac) back on the floor as quickly as possible and sometimes that means making short cuts... Look at the Gilbert Areanas deal, he's had 3 surgeries in the last 18 months, beacuse people are trying to rush him back on the court.... Why, because he's money and having him on the bench is losing them money. So again, EVERYONE from the Organization to T-Mac is to blame for this crap and the Paying fans are the ones that suffering.
How can you not seriously see the difference between admitting it publicly and privately?? I would agree that for a CURRENt patient of his it wouldn't matter, since the patient already probably tursts him and has confidence in him then the doc could probably just post a message in his practice or talk to them privately and that would suffice, BUT what about clients who don't know him personally and are just going by his rep? Look at the doc's options when it comes to new clients. 1. He says nothing, publicly or privately = he's going to lose clients who choose to believe the rumors 2. He says something privately or posts something in his practice= he won't lose as many client to rumors, BUT there will still be those who ask, well why didn't the Rockets mention this? Is the doctor lying, or trying to hide something? 3. He says something publicly = then clients take it as official and true since it completely out there and they see it as being more credible, less likely to lose new patients. Also, if he stays quiet, then clients can speculate as to what the mistake was(if any), during surgery rehab, initial consulation, etc. If the doc specifically says, "hey i let him go too early and well it's his fault too", then that gives a specific answer, so new clients won't assume anything, they'll know exactly what happened and won't see this as serious since it didn't happen during surgery, they 'll just have to be more careful about coming back too early.
well i agree, but like i mentioned, tmac seemed to gain full strength and then lose it when he took those 10 days off at the beginning of the year. For his trainer and tmac himself to say he was back then tmac had to have shown somehow that his knee was also back. Maybe he was lifting the same weight as last year, or whtvr, i dont know, but their had to be something measureable that showed his knee was back...so my theory isthe same thin happened when the season began. Something showed his knee was good to go, the doc cleared him, and then the knee lost strength, tmac started sitting out, then remember he came back saying he felt great around late nov i believe, so his strength came back, then later he went back out, took the 10 days off, said he's back, and then again went out and lost strength. So that's a pattern right there, why it's happening who knows, maybe it was mental, or maybe something he's doing after his knee is strong causes it to weaken again. In this situation, thecnically the doc wouldn't have made a mistake based on the facts presented to him.
Im failing to understand all this talk that Dr. Clanton's credibility and its effect on his future clients/patients. First off, in his statement, Dr. Clanton does point a finger towards TMac's inability to properly strengthen his knee. So, although he is taking the blame, this is very similar to a quarterback taking the blame for a loss...even though the defense gave up 42 points. Secondly, Dr. Clanton does not need to worry about losing patients. The guy cant catch a breather because he is in such high demand. He is waaaaay too established within orthopedics and very well known around the world. Having TMac come back "too early" will have zero impact on the future of his private practice. Thirdly, do you think the average person who doesnt follow the Rockets will hear any of this news about Dr. Clanton letting TMac back on the court early? The answer is "No". People fly into Houston from all over the country to have surgery done by Dr. Clanton. I guarantee they will hear nothing of this "mistake" made by him. However, lets assume that this tarnishes the doc's reputation and really has an impact on his future...the only thing that will change is that you'll go from a 6 month waiting list to a 4 month waiting list.
1. He says nothing, publicly or privately = he's going to lose clients who choose to believe the rumors Has there been any historical data that this happened to any team doctor? Why would anybody in his right mind make a major decision like surgery based on rumors? 2. He says something privately or posts something in his practice= he won't lose as many client to rumors, BUT there will still be those who ask, well why didn't the Rockets mention this? Is the doctor lying, or trying to hide something? That all depends on what he is disclosing. If he is announcing something that removes him of fault, then yes I would agree that is the right decision. This is not true with this case. He will not lose patients after admitting fault? I fail to see how that is a plus for him. Before his admittance, most folks had made up their mind that it was all Tracy's fault. Now, it has changed a lot of people minds as to what really transpired. This is what has happened and this is a FACT based on the responses here and everywhere and not based on speculation on what could/will happen. The way this story is shaping up, Tracy has gained back a little respect while the doctor is now the scapegoat. To me, that is negative PR for the surgeon.
He did specifically say tmac shared some ofthe blame although he didn't mention rehab specifically. You wrote that tmac coming back too early has no impact on the doc, but that's what you think NOW that it's pretty much clear what went wrong was tmac coming back early. Before there was all kinds of speculation about tmac AND the doctors messing up. And we don't know the doc personally, maybe if you were in his position you'd feel secure enough to not say a word, but maybe it bothers him personally for rumors to be flying out there about his abilities. It has to do more with his own personality than being a doc. How can you guarantee no one will hear about it?? Are you going to censor every article written about it? Every post in every forum??? You can't guarantee that. What do people do now to research? GOOGLE! People may not select a doctor based on what comes up on google, but they certainly will cross out docs because of it. You think the doc's name and tmac aren't somewhere in cyberspace? Even if the patient asks someone about the doc, perhaps that someone hears about tmac, you never know. There's no way for you or the doc to be sure of it.
] You're assuming everyone in this country is in their RIGHT MIND. You and I may not think it makes sense, but that means nothing, we're not his future patients (more than likely). I know people who share your view, but i know people who would in fact believe rumors. Some people are wayy too trusting, some are always paranoid of their doctors and don't trust them completely. Its the way it is, people are different, some are logical, some aren't, but logical or not, they're all potential clients in the doctor's eyes. The reason why i wrote he may not lose patients if he "admits fault" is because of the severity of it. He's only admitting to releasing tmac too early. That's peanuts compared to what people may assume the mistake was if they listen to rumors. They could assume he misread an xray, performed the surgery incorrectly, etc. So the key isn't that he admitted guilt, but that what he admitted to was small potatoes compared to what could have been assumed if he stayed quiet. And i think someone mentioned earlier than its only clutchfans who's talking about rumors about tmac botching the rehab and the doc's being incompetent, but that's not true. Maybe we did START the rumors, but i've seen reporters on TV and in newspapers imply the same things, so people outside of this forum are thinking about this too, it really is bigger than clutchfans.
Dr. Clanton's reputation precedes him. People that go to him dont do internet searches to see where he messed up...they already know that he is one of the best in the country. But, lets say for a minute that I need ankle surgery and decide to do a search on Dr. Clanton. Oh look, I came across this article where he takes blame in TMac's poor showing this season. Guess what though? The surgery wasnt what Dr. Clanton messed up. My first concern would be, "Is this doctor capable of performing the surgery at the highest level?". Therefore, this TMac incident does nothing for me to question Dr. Clanton's skill in the OR. If I do the proper research here, it would be apparent to me that rehab is the most important part after the surgery, therefore, I will have learned my lesson that after Dr. Clanton does the surgery, then it would be on me to make sure the surgery continues to be a success from the work I put in after Ive been operated on. Have you ever had surgery? How often does the surgeon keep up with you after the surgery to make sure you are rehabbing properly? Fact of the matter is that the patient is given the proper rehab routine and it is up to the PATIENT to continue with the program. As long as the surgeon does his job during surgery, then its all on the patient to take care of the rest. Not sure, maybe since my family has deeply entrenched itself in the medical field in Houston and me also being in the health professions, I have a different perspective. Plus, I have known Dr. Clanton since I was 11 years old (29 now)...I can almost assure, with 100% certainty, that admitting fault for having TMac come back too early will have ZERO impact on his personal career.
Hi All, I admit the followings: 1. I prescribed a daily doze of dozen cheese burger with extra mayo to strengthen Tracy's Jaw-line,Neck and Chin area. 2. Rafer'e shot selections were actually my ideas. 3. Clyde borrows all the funny comments from me. Oh, and asking Bush to attack Iraq was too early, I could have asked him to wait. Sincerely, Dr.Clunker
hahaha I wish you are right . . . I'll even take the "cancer" Marbury over this jacka$$. Healthy or not he has NO heart. I am taking his framed jersey down this week seeing as he will never again be in a Rockets uniform!
Star athletes sought out Dr. Clanton because of his reputation. Bungling TMac's knee would put a dent on his reputation. I don't get it. Why would the doctor say negative things about himself just to protect TMac's face? Why would he care about TMac's image?
So continues the endless spin and speculation by the haters to ensure that T-mac doesn't get a fair shake.
Grow TFU! Mcgrady could care less about bringing a championship here and if you can't make a real argument other than using the whole "HATING" response than go back to your little MTV world with that. Right now the Rockets have a huge liability on their books (TMAC) that isn't helping them one bit and they're simply trying to use PR to deal him in the off season. It's business and they're trying to get whatever value they can for a lemon. And before you talk about Tmac trying to help the Rockets win a championship you might want to take some baby steps and start with a first round series win, because Tmac is no different than a rookie as far as the playoffs are concerned. This doctor is just making it seem like Tmac got rail roaded and will make a full recovery so another team will take the bait. Morey will get some succer to do this. But seriously stop acting like a child and calling people haters because they have a different opinion than you. You're hating on something that you just don't understand which is that Tmac is a lemon.
Keep hating this, keep hating that, blah blah blah. It sure does get old when some of you can't understand why people may doubt a specific player and criticize them without referring to the hater chanting. Even if he is more hurt than any who has ever needed the surgery he intentionally went behind the Rockets back and leaked a story to a loud mouthed media hound named Steven A smith who lauded the story all over the media before the Rockets even knew just so he could keep his precious ego here in Houston for the next year a or two. He made a smart calculated selfish move to keep himself in Houston, but possibly hurt a potential trade we had with other teams while Morey was negotiating with several teams on all sorts of players. Mcgrady panicked for himself which no other Houston ROcket has ever done in history and leaked out a trade killer. Mcgrady gets no benefit of the doubt from Rockets fans who have stood by him through his back and forth injury problems, depression issues, and his over all under achievements when it came to winning.
Not sure if this has been posted yet, but just in case i'm posting his apology here. No matter what some you guys won't cut him some slack. The guy obviously feels bad about how the whole thing played out: Just wanted to drop you all a line and give you an update. I’m having my surgery tomorrow, and while it’s always a little nerve-racking to go under the knife, I’m excited to take the first step towards getting healthy and getting back on the court. I’ve been overwhelmed by the support from friends and all you fans out there, and that makes me all the more eager to get through this surgery and rehab process so that I can get healthy and get back out there to do what I love to do. With that said I would like to apologize to Les Alexander, the Rockets organization, and of course all the fans out there for this entire situation. Les and the Rockets have been nothing short of amazing to me and my family during my entire time with them, and for that I thank them. The organization has invested so much in bringing a championship to Houston this season, and there’s nothing I want more than to be a part of that. The injuries have really taken a toll on me, and I can’t help but feel like I’m letting everyone down by not being out there with my teammates. I’m sorry to all those who were counting on me to help this team achieve great things. Coach Adelman has been extremely accommodating and patient with me while we have tried to work through this, and I am thankful to him for that. It’s hard enough to prepare night in and night out to go up against the best players in the world, and it’s even harder to do it without knowing the status of your players. This team still has a lot of talent and heart and I think coach will be able to get the most out of everyone. The Rockets have a chance to make a deep run, and I’ll be there cheering on my guys every step of the way. My personal focus now is to look forward and dedicate myself 100% to returning to the court and returning to be the player I was and know that I still am. Coming back from this won’t be easy, but I promise to rehab hard, listen to my doctors, and do everything possible in my power to be the best that I can be when I return. I love being a Rocket and a member of the Houston community and am eager to prove my commitment to this team and this city. Thank you again for your continued and unwavering support. Tracy But of course i'm sure half the people on the board will say its just another PR stunt
You dont think its a PR stunt? Its total damage control, first of all. Secondly, do you really think he is the one that wrote that?
whether he wrote it or not, it shows he had remorse about how it was handled...that's why Adelman even came out and said it was a misunderstanding...but somewhere along the line, when he actually gets microfracture surgery, we have to believe he was in alot of pain and tried hard to play in spite of that...just like somewhere along the line when its stated that he's apologizing to Les and the entire rockets organization, we have to believe that he felt badly how it was handled
Well, for one, he should feel badly about what he did...shoot, telling the loud mouth SAS before telling his team? Thats dirty. Regardless, issuing an apology on his page is a PR stunt, regardless of the reasons behind it. Secondly, if every player in the league that had missing cartilage had microfracture surgery, then you'd lose about 10% of the league due to injury. Therefore, its more a result of him being unable to play with discomfort, than a result of him being in such excruciating pain. Look at his history, the guy's body is fragile...and even he has said in the past that his body isnt built for this. I think its a safe assumption that he isnt the biggest beast on the block. I also think this injury is more mental than physical. In other words, TMac felt that surgery would cure not only his physical ailment, but also his mental health.
he should feel bad, and if he does try to fix it, its a PR stunt, so basically either way he can't win... He's been injured quite a bit in the last few years, no doubt, but for a couple of doctors to recommend the surgery after taking the advanced MRI shows that its beyond just what tmac feels...its something that is required for him to play with any sort of explosiveness, and that explosiveness is what mcgrady tmac...anyway, i'm just glad the drama is over, and hopefully he comes back strong next year
