1. There is a big difference in this year's free agency, as opposed to 2010. 2. We're talking Marbury here. T-Mac has never had the type of off the court issues like Marbury had. 3. Ever thought that the Knicks want that free cap space? Not to mention the whole minds games of not letting Marbury play to teach him a lesson. 4. There was an article that said Houston offered T-Mac to the Knicks. They still didn't give up Marbury. Sounds like they rather let Marbury's contract expire than to take on a extra year.
I think GM's have more important things to do than dissect every quote by every Rocket and front office member. The fans here live and die by the Rockets, read articles upon articles every day, click refresh repeatedly to find the newest info on their favorite teams. Yes, there are many things that we see that your average GM may miss out on.
Past him actually coming back and winning a championship, it's irreparable here in Houston. Watching how the Rockets' organization handles next season will be very interesting.
no offense, but are you really that dense? not every big expiring can get traded for good return, 2010's or not (see marbury) --> so a team needs to do proper pr and damage control --> and that is what the rockets are doing now, in order to get decent return for #1 when he becomes an expiring next season. where in the above is it hard for you to comprehend?
both sides are at fault. tracy was at fault for mishandling the situation. dr. clanton was at fault for letting him play too early. a lot of this board think tracy is overweight and didn't rehab enough when he came back. that was probably the case. therefore, he shouldn't have played. get it? sit him out and force him to rehab.
wow, didn't the medical staff said to tracy and tracy proclaimed that he needed surgery on his shoulders last yr? what is going on?
he found a world-renowned specialist in both microfracture surgery AND alternatives for those that have his knee problems. it wasn't just some random doctor that would do his surgery bro. like i said, tracy should never have played from the start. he wasn't in basketball shape. he was limping. i don't care what kind of level of expertise you have in the medical field, those signs alone would have to tell you that guy is NOT READY, esp. for a game that plays against the best athletes in the world.
The team surgeon doesnt follow the Rockets like a team trainer would...Dr. Clanton has his own practice and his own work in the med center. His job isnt to monitor TMac's rehab or follow Rocket's practices or follow the Rockets games. His job is to do the surgery and assess when a proper return time from the injury should be. If you read Dr. Clanton's quote, it gives us a hint that it was TMac that did not strengthen the knee like he should have.
really? you don't think they have more connects than us? they can hit up a phone and call houston reporters/insiders and have private conversations and know what is up. you think the knicks can do some damage control with marbury and they wouldn't know what's going on. they know tracy messed up on his part here. everyone does. he has really mishandled this situation very poorly and unprofessionally. no damage control can change that. however, he's not 100% at fault.
Finally, some perspective. I think T-mac has done some dumb things, but it amazes me how fast a player can become the devil incarnate around here. Sheesh. He shouldn't have been playing as soon as he did. It's possible he didn't put enough effort into his rehab. He is tone def concerning how his actions are often percieded. He should not have announced the surgery the way he did. He didn't agree with the docors assessment that his knee was alright. Isn't that really all you can say for sure? Enough to irritate a fan sure. But to want run him out of town on a rail? To act like he was never a positive for the Rockets? Amazing. But hey, I guess fans have been like that forever. What have you done for me lately.
Give me a break. If anyone with 1/4 a brain can come in here and say, "This iz fake! Nothing but a PR move for SheMac!" You don't think GMs would see that? You do know they get paid to make roster moves and things like that right? I believe they find out whatever they can about a player before making a deal. Yes, that includes if they think something was done as a PR move or not. They actually work in this field, you guys don't. This is their job. We're on the outside looking in, they're on the inside, looking everywhere.
ok, i've said let's take that stance. let's go with the worst route and say tracy was so lazy and didn't do jack during the summer and never rehabbed. there is no way, if i was the doctor, that if i see a tracy mcgrady 10 lbs over his playing weight, limping all over a preseason game looking like a 60 year old, grimacing here and there, and shows zero ability to dunk the ball, i would let him play. seriously? you don't think the doctor is at any fault here? again, we came into this season with A TON of expectation, throwing the "big 3" name around and pumping up the energy around the team. imagine if tracy had missed the first month or two of the season. i believe the team did put pressure for tracy to play b/c there was so much riding on the "big 3." ultimately, there was no way tracy should play there. shane battier sat out for a smaller injury. tracy should have sat out.
if you follow this board long enough, you know a lot of things about tracy are speculations. lemme name some wild things this board actually believed: 1) tracy faked his knee injury last yr b/c nobody believed a knee bruise can keep a player out that long 2) tracy isoed yao ming 3) tracy doesn't sit on the bench b/c he dislikes his teammates 4) tracy is selfish on the basketball court.
i'm assuming that poster doesn't know that other teams have their own PR people. only the rockets know how to work their PR
the thing is we have to move on w/o him. and that's what adelman and the players are trying to right now. the whole mcgrady saga this season this season, i believe it all started from him not having worked on his knee rehab during the summer. probably thought he could slack off a bit since we had acquired artest, too. and then the going got tough and he couldn't handle it properly and thus some unrest within the locker room and such. i've never believed that he talked to sas just to avoid a trade, since the receiving team could waive the physical and his physical conditions were well known by the entire league. if the team can move on from here, which i think they can, then this whole thing may not be as a big deal as many of us thought. if not, anger may come back on him. imagine he perfectly rehabed his knee last summer and we had a vintage mcgrady without having to go through the drama, everyone would be talking championship about us. oh well.
For the sake of argument, let's say this was a PR move. Since the team doctor was the one who made this statement, is it safe to assume that the move was orchestrated by the Rockets management? If so, what does the organization or the team doctory gain by doing so? Let's just say (for the sake of argument again) his surgery and rehab is succesful and he can effectively play for this team or another one next year. Ticket sales for next season? Fans have a "What have you done for me lately" attitude that they will easily forget the past if Tracy shows how well the team is doing with him. I would find it hard to believe it is for that reason. Trade value? With Tracy's age, injury proned reputation and salary, I don't see him being taken by a rebuilding team. A team who is in the hunt for a championship and requires one extra piece is more likely. Teams are more than willing to look at players reputation with a blind eye if they feel that this is the player they need to win it all especially if they only have to rent him for one year. Artest is a good example of that. If he is taken by a team so they can free up CAP space for 2010, why would they care about the players reputation? If he comes back after the summer and is not able to play anymore, then thats the end of that. We'll just have to suck it up and pay him 23M, put him in the injured list for the year and use the excemption of using half his salary to sign another player without paying luxury tax. Thoughts, comments?
