Possible Spoilers So, am I the only one who has anything negative to say about the movie? I thought the script was weak, the plot was too linear, the "bad guy" sucked, and many of the characters were just plain dull. Holes would have been an appropriate title for this movie to reflect the huge, gaping craters in the story. Everything seemed to happen at the speed of light; explanation be damned! It looks like the only reason Storm and Cyclops are in there is to give a reason to create some cool special effects, I don't think they add much else. Halle Berry might as well just be walking around naked. Many of the actors don't seem to have any charisma whatsoever, especially the younger ones. Also, it sounds like Jean Grey is supposed to come back to life - hopefully she'll come back as a semi-interesting character....I could go on and on. Yes, the actions sequences were great, but that's about the only good thing I can say about the movie (with the exception of the "coming out" scene"). I think if I was a comic book reader, who knew all the back stories of the X-Men and was more familiar with the characters, I would have enjoyed the movie more, simply because I would have just applied everything I already knew about the story and the characters to fill in the enormous gaps in the movie. But as a person who doesn't read comic books, I was totally unimmersed and unimpressed. And that's my scathing review.
Yeah, I think you're the only one. See, that's the curse of having a movie property like this with so many characters. Everyone has their favorite, and there is only so much a director can do given the limited time-frame. That said, I didn't think there were any significant holes in the plot/story. FWIW, I also am not too terribly familiar with the comic books. I know who the characters are, and I have the basic knowledge about each one, but 99% of all that I know comes from old Saturday morning cartoons and action figures. Also another curse of a movie like this: You can't make a movie so that only a select percentage of your audience knows what the hell is going on. Honestly, I think it was great. I thought the first one was pretty good....not great by any means, but still decent. I loved this one, as did 302's GF, who knows far less about comics than I do. I loved it, and I think I'm more critical as a fan of the fantasy genre than most.
DCkid, Yeah, I think you're the only one. Do you want to elaborate on some of the plot holes? I thought they did a pretty good job of making a solid plotline (aside from how did Jason not know it was Mystique talking to him if he's still a powerful telepath?...but I just overlooked that because he was pretty much a vegetable)
No. I friggin' hate all things X-Men so I'm automatically biased against it. Unfortunately I'm being dragged to it this weekend by SO, so expect some b****ing here then.
Yeah, I'd like to see them add this from the comics (basically a quote): Wolverine (to Xavier): These thugs are too easy, Chuck. Turn it up a notch. Xavier: Logan, you may call me by many names: Charles, Xavier, Professor Xavier, or just plain Professor. Do not refer to me as "Chuck" again or there may be consequences. Wolverine: Whatever you say, Chuck.
I think Jason's power was that he was a "telephathic illusionist." He isn't really an telepath like Xavier or Jean Gray, but more that he can control people by tricking their minds. At least, that is what I got out of it.
What are some of the "plot holes" that bothered you? The one thing that bothered me was Magneto and Mystique being at just the right place to save the jet from crashing.
