Anonymous poll. Do you think Watson should be off the team? Is he a rapist sexual deviant or are we jumping to conclusions about an NFL/Instagram culture of legalized prostitution and judging him guilty before this plays out? Curious to see where we are as the season rolls in and the Texans seemingly try and mend fences.
I’m conflicted. And I think it’s dependent on the day. I hate that having a good QB on the team you support could potentially compromise your moral compass. I do believe innocent until proven guilty, but there sure is a lot of smoke. Ultimately, the best case scenario, imo, is Watson is traded for the highest return ever and the Texans find another great QB. Wishful thinking
The scandal was the last straw for me. Years of abuse is what it felt like coming to a head. We do live in a country where you are supposed to be innocent until proven guilty. Without trying to be too controversial that doesnt always apply when it comes to alleged crimes against women or children. Public opinion will always lean in the opposite direction for men who are faced with those types of allegations. Is Watson creepy and scummy? Yes. He had a smoking hot girlfriend who should have been enough for him, and if not he should not have been "committed". Regardless there are still no criminal charges. I think the relationship here is broken, but I dont think the mans life should be ruined if it boils down to him paying for p***y and then the women blackmailing him for further financial gain. Best case would be for Watson to play and play great. Tell him it will only drive his value back to where it belongs and its a win/win for everyone involved. Let this season play out and you will have another batch of thirsty teams before next season who might pony up the type of offer it should take to secure the services of one of the best QBs in the game. VERY interesting to see him taking a bunch of reps at QB and not safety yesterday so it remains to be seen what exactly Watson and the team have been discussing behind closed doors and then to be as visual as they were yesterday with Watson chatting it up with Caserio and Culley before practice.
And that’s the hard part, if it really was just wanting to pay for some booty then it’s nothing Imo. Some of the details sound like a lot more than that. Talent vs what is “right”
The whole situation is just a mess. The reality is most people know deep down that Watson did something pretty bad. He didn't kill anyone but he sexually assaulted multiple women and assumed he would get away with it. On the other hand, Watson is 25 years old and is already one of the 4-5 best quarterbacks in the NFL, and has the potential to be the BEST quarterback in the world when he is in his prime and has competent players around him. He may well be a Hall of Famer at the most important position in all of sports. It could easily be 35-50 years before the Texans get a comparable player at quarterback. Hell, the Bears have NEVER had a quarterback as good as Watson in nearly 100 years....... That is really hard to accept...... and I think a lot of fans believe Watson will go somewhere else, explode and win Super Bowl's and stay out of trouble. However, what I would remind those fans is that DeShaun Watson doesn't want to be on the Texans.... he doesn't plan to be on the Texans long term anyway. I think a divorce is destined to happen and yes the Texans will be screwed..... and for all the screw ups the McNair's have made, this one is just bad luck. They drafted a quarterback that said the right things but happened to be a scumbag. They were going to lose him anyway due to their inability to run a good franchise, but the sexual assault stuff was a problem regardless.
I agree. Im in no way, shape or form trying to soften or make this situation palatable. Our judicial system has to be trusted. What is 'right' in public opinion or what is 'right' in terms of crime and punishment? Im so far removed emotionally from this team its easy for me to go either way with it. I know its football season though and while my son ramps up for his senior year of ball I cant help but feel drawn to "my" team. I want whats best for the franchise to finally NOT be a laughingstock in terms of coaching or talent. Deshaun Watson playing great for this team in some arrangement for a mutual future split is what seems most feasible at this point - either that or just wait for the annual Tyrod Taylor injury and do it then. I prayed for Goodell to just stick him on the exempt list for what its worth, but it doesn't seem that will happen. There is no way to rationalize dumping him for nothing or it would have happened already. What is the best case for you in this lose/lose situation? I havent been keeping up with the board in a little while.
He wasn't just paying them for "booty", if that were the case he would have a lot of evidence of that.......... what he did is schedule massages and hoped for more, and didn't think he had to pay for it, and it is very likely that not all of these women knew what was going to happen. We can speculate WHY he did it, but it doesn't really matter.
Yeah man, which is why it’s conflicting. I believe in innocent until proven guilty, but this doesn’t seem to be that easy. He seems like at minimum a perv, and most likely a serial sexual deviant
Devils Advocate - how would he have evidence of solicitation? Especially if it was negotiated in person? What if there was agreements for pay to play and the guy decided to skip paying them? So much grey in this dilemma and I just want due process to play out. While your description could be closer to the truth - that is the issue for me - what makes the most sense for those of us who dont have all the information? Logically speaking that is a whole bunch of women to claim rape with no criminal charges stemming. If Watson had a bunch of evidence to support solicitation, then in the same argument shouldnt the women have some sort of evidence proving rape other than just a Salem witch type of finger pointing? Originally Buzzbee wanted to settle out of court for financial gain so I have to question the motives as a sensible person even when the optics are horrific.
Innocent until proven guilty is a legal standard and really isn't a standard for public opinion, and never has been.... look at OJ Simpson for example. The legal standard is used for finding someone criminally liable. I agree with you that the whole situation is just gross though..... it is bad for everyone involved.
Yes we should absolutely get rid of Watson. Only for fair value. The truth is “fair value” remains to be seen. It all hinges on the discipline, settlement, criminal investigation forthcoming. If a team really wanted to take a chance on Watson soon- the package would have to be formulated around conditional draft picks. Example: 1st rd pick in 22 if on the active roster for 7 games 1st rd pick in 23 if on the active roster week one 2nd rd pick in 23 1st rd pick in 24
I'm fine with trading him for a kings ransom or merely benching him for his entire contract. He's a serial abuser of women, so he really shouldn't be in the league for a while at a minimum.
The question is does Watson get “exonerated” simply by going to another team and the passage of time where all misdeeds eventually get forgotten. Michael Vick comes to mind as a guy who actually served jail time and was the king of Philly during his MVP season. It’s simply about his ties to the Texans that are both bad for the organization, bad for him, and is looked at in a negative light around the league.
I want him off the team, but we need to be patient and get a boatload of assets for him. You are still innocent until proven guilty in the courts and that is why DeShaun will not face criminal charges since it is "he said, she said". They will settle out of court and he will be playing at some point this year (NFL could still suspend or put him on exempt list just for his deviant behavior). He will return to the field and he will be good. Then we trade him hopefully.
Personally I want him gone immediately, but I dont blame the Texans for holding onto him until they can get a decent return. If he's still on the roster by next year's draft then that's inexcusable.
Meh. He stays we are still sht, he leaves we are still sht. Until easterby gets canned, Texans get new owners, it doesn't matter what we do. Watson is a big distraction that mask how sht this franchise is being ran. We r literally the new browns except we don't have any history winning anything except those division titles.
Only if we get a great haul of draft picks. WIth the caveat that if he gets convicted of sexual assault then HELL NO!!! Right now it appears he is trolling rub and tug "therapists",
