I think you are reaching a bit. I voted yes, but I wouldnt expect yao to assume the same level of responsibility within the team's game plan as he did prior to going down.

I voted yes because he is humble enough to accept a role in which he could be brought in to have a shawn bradley type role coming off the bench.

I can see a team like Miami taking a flyer on Yao, if given the opportunity. Granted, there are probably other players that would be rated higher, but for a team that is over the cap, I think it makes sense. I can see Yao signing a contract close to the vet min for the opportunity to play with a team that is a legit contender.

I don't think that's the case anymore. They didn't even allow Yao to play over 20 minutes or back to backs when he looked like healed. No coach would make Yao the focal point unless he can prove to be healthy and good enough for at least one full season.

Rockets never bent over bakcwards on Yao in terms of the direction of the team. They traded away Francis without Yao's acknowledgement.

At the vet minimum you bring him back.

You still aggressively go after a starting caliber center, but for that cheap you bring back yao.

If we somehow swing a deal for howard, nene, m gasol, whoever and then the big man depth chart could look something like:

    scola/patterson/hayes
    whatever C/hayes/yao

obviously someone out of scola, pat, and chuck will probably be moved in a deal for whatever big man we go after, but even so how can you argue against that?

3rd string C with almost zero expectations at the vet minimum is worth it. Even if he only gives you 40 games played at 8-10 mpg it is worth it at the vet minimum. Although I will agree that the more the contract goes up the less attractive it sounds to bring him back.

If a coach tries to make Yao the focal point when he is making the vet's min, he deserves to be fired and the team deserves to lose.

Yao is unique, he'd be getting the vets min because of the unsustainable minutes, not his lack of skill. He would be the focal point whenever he would be on the floor like it or not.

It creates a sort of pseudo hybrid offense thats difficult to control once he sits and players rotate.

I like Yao.but it's time to move on. He can't give us more than 15 games at best before getting injured.

I know Yao is a question mark for ever playing again and it's a big risk, but if Yao says he's gonna try to play again, I want it to be as a Rocket. The guy has done so much for the Rockets in his time in Houston and is arguably a Hall of Famer based on his impact on basketball alone.

If the Rockets can get Yao for a reasonable price, then I'm all for signing him. He's still a cultural icon.

7 foot center with consistent foot injuries (meaning he can't sustain the weight)

    vs

A wing who almost died under a medical procedure.

    Very diff stories...

as long as Yao Ming can give the Rockets anything (as in be able to avoid injury) whether it's playing every other game or only 12 mpg, i think he can contribute at least as much as Brad Miller.

Yao was averaging 10.2 - 5.4 in 18 minutes despite of everything (a year out, playing time restrictions, b2bs, Brooks as PG...). I think that if he can stay healthy he will be an important/very important part of the team, like it or not.

And if he can't, he will be out of the team/pro basketball.

But I don't believe in halfways... he's that good, and that injury prone. If he's available, he's not Brad Miller, he is Yao Ming.

Wow, I can't believe I actually agree with this fool on this post.

If you believe that the team will let Yao just be a role player off the bench if he is healthy and playing, you need a brain check immediately.

Where do people get the idea that we can get him for the vet minimum? It's going to cost $5mill/year and he's not worth it.
