From money point of view, Rockets does well among NBA teams, and Yao/China definitely has something to do with it. How much we don't know.

From winning point of view, let Yao go for nothing won't help Rockets to be a contender quickly anyway, yet sign Yao cheap is likely to help more.

I don't see any downside for Rockets to sign Yao cheap. But Yao might get better offers from other teams.

Sure, waste a spot for an injury waiting to happen.

Yao playing for the Rockets > Yao on any other team > Yao on the sidelines on the Rockets payroll.

If Yao gets injured as a Rocket again I just might dump a truckload of fortune cookies on the court during a Rockets game.

Business benefits: stop trying to recoup sunk costs and cause a paradigm shift in the way the team is built and managed.

    F**k No!

Are you guys insane? Why not rephrase the question as, "Do you want to see the Rockets suck again next year?" or "Do you want the Rox to pin all their hopes on a crippled horse again next year?"

In the words of Austin Powers, when faced with a villain who survived multiple injuries that should have been fatal: "Why won't you DIE?"

    BS.

When did Yao ever affect the way this team is managed? Did he made any decision to fire JVG or RA? Did he made any decision to tradge for Tmac?

The team is already built, and it lacks a big man in the middle. How is Yao gonna shift that by leaving?

I would love to see Yao sign with the Lakers for the minimum, he would be taking Smith's spot. Neither of them are able to play meaningful minutes, one of them lack ability while the other one is never healthy, but when you are as deep as the Lakers you can take a risk on Yao's health and if he never plays they could just waive him.

But no according to Clutchfans, if Yao is on your team it means they will try to build round him and he is a bad ifluence.

I bet if the Lakers scenario did play out all these people on Clutchfans will be like OMG F u MOREY Y U NO TAKE DA LOW RISK HIGH REWARD MOVEEEEE, NOW WE HAVE HARRIS AS OUR LAST MAN INSTEAD OF YAO!

Those who voted "no" know deep down secretly that they do want him to be a Rocket next year. Who wouldn't want a guy like Yao on thier team? I say give him one last chance.

If it's at the vets minimum then for sure.

What have we got to lose?

If he gets injured we just waive him and move on.

I'm hoping we make the same off-season moves regardless of whether or not he's going to be playing here. It'd be great to sign a 7' starting center and have Ming as 3rd string off the bench (or 1st string if he actually makes it back to being healthy!)

I think the false hope Yao brings will distract the Rockets from diligently addressing the hole in the middle. Its also very difficult to incorporate a player like Yao into a team's offensive and defensive schemes. It often takes a large chunk of the season before players are comfortable playing with him. And since he'll be largely playing with teammates who have shared very little court time with him and are used to an up-and-down style, its going to be an even tougher problem. And then if/when he goes down midseason, they start over learning to play a different way? Great.

It sounds practical to bring him back at a bargain deal, but nevertheless I voted no which I realize isn't a popular answer. Stop hoping for a miracle cure.

My answer is no, it is very stressing for Rockets AND for Yao Ming to go through having injury again, and it WILL happen. When he gets injured, Rockets have to go through adjustment without him. And Yao Ming have to go through emotional trauma of falling back down again and letting down team.

Best chance for Houston Rockets to be great again is NOT Yao Ming, it is Dwight Howard. Even if chance is small Dwight will come, chance becomes even smaller when Dwight knows it is not really his team, it is Yao’s. I know Daryl Morey’s sight is on Dwight and the smart man hopes Yao will retire. I would love to see Goran and rest of very good Rockets team to play with Dwight who does not break so easily.
