while that's all true, i think the absolute biggest thing is shaq can't let people make fun of him and barkley can. shaq can occasionally make a joke about himself but he almost never seems to let things go when others say it. no matter how harmless, he always seems to have to offer a qualification or something to let you know he was still really good.

i think shaq spent his whole life being the biggest, strongest guy in the room and then even in the nba, a world of big, strong, rich guys, shaq was the biggest and strongest and richest and won titles and controlled franchises. i think he's used to having a mic in front of him and cracking jokes and having everyone laugh whether it was funny or not and also never having anyone come back at him. to me the best example was when shaq flopped against dwight howard and stan van gundy joked about how he couldn't believe shaq did that after how much shaq used to always complain about people flopping against him. shaq's light-hearted reply? "stan was a terrible coach who panicked in big moments" (paraphrasing). a little ding to the shaq ego and he comes out swinging for no reason.

now obviously he doesn't get that bad on tnt but he still can't handle things like barkley. even in that recent segment where they were going over post moves, one of hakeem's was a nice fake on shaq that got him room for a hook shot. kenny mentioned hakeem faked shaq out. instead of just playing along or saying nothing, shaq had to immediately point out that he still got close to blocking it. and he did. but that's not the point.

whereas they showed a barkley highlight where he traveled all over the place before making a layup and chuck laughs and says "i might have traveled there" and doesn't take making a comment like that as some afront to his greatness.

and possibly related to all this is that shaq doesn't have enough weaknesses for the others to feel completely comfortable making fun of him unless he feels comfortable with it and buys into it. kenny wasn't an all-time great like barkley, barkley never won a title and is fat, ernie's the dorky white guy. and shaq? he's an all-time great, with 4 rings, and endorsements and fame. and not unimportantly, he could beat everybody up if he wanted to. if he's not going to embrace the few weaknesses that can be made fun of, then the whole dynamic of the show doesn't work.

I can see the crew making fun of metta for saying crazy and off the walls things but the difference between Ron and Shaq is I don't see Ron letting it bother him.

More Shaq means less time for EJ, Kenny, and Charles. No thanks.

Shaq takes a lot of shots at Charles. It is annoying and needs to stop. Shaq likes to dish it out but cannot take it. He needs to grow some thicker skin.

I thought Charles was gonna start yelling at Shaq at one point tonight.

You know, I always thought that Kobe was 60% to blame for the break up of the Lakers years ago. After seeing Shaq so much on inside the nba, I gotta say it was a 50/50 thing.

Webber was better. Shaq's not as clever or funny as Charles and I do agree he has insecurities.

He was extremely defensive about losing to the Rockets.
He said he lost to Dream cause he was "too nice of a guy" and won championships when he was "Nastier" and needed to throw some "bows".

That's complete BS. Shaq led the league in scoring that year and we swept them.

The Rockets came back in much more dramatic fashion against the Suns during the two championships and Chuck doesn't go defensive on why they lost.

    Didn't even think about Metta.

But he would be way better than Shaq.

When Shaq mumbles.... man... thats when he is terrible.

Shaq simply does not have the kind of personality or voice that can work well in a television media position. TNT should axe him after this season is over.

He works better as occassional guest appearance. I wonder if they asked him to come on board, or did he ask to come on board?

Bring back CWebb. The Big Plagiarism is at his best when he doesn't have to actually think up his material on air. Or think period.

That would be spectacular. More of him on TV is a good thing.

I think one non player is enough. Ernie Kenny and Charles are perfect don't need to add anything.
